Back to all Jobs Fire Inspector Location: Fire, Holly Springs, NC 27540 Department: Fire Job Status: Full-Time Status: Open Until Filled Apply Now Job Description Position Overview: The Fire Inspector, a vital member of our Fire Department team, is responsible for enforcing fire safety regulations and codes, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal fire safety standards. This position requires a candidate who not only meets the minimum requirements for a firefighter but also holds essential certifications, including NCDOI, Proboard, or IFSAC certification as Fire Inspector I. Preferred candidates will also possess expertise in building plan review, enhancing our department's ability to uphold and enforce fire safety standards effectively.
The work schedule is business hours including evenings and weekends. Annual starting salary is $54,259.71, pay grade H. Key Responsibilities: Fire Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of buildings, facilities, and properties to ensure adherence to fire safety regulations.
Identify potential fire hazards, issue citations for violations, and recommend corrective actions. Code Enforcement: Enforce fire safety regulations by working closely with property owners and occupants to rectify non-compliance issues. Ensure follow-up on corrective actions taken and maintain detailed records of inspections and violations.
Public Education: Develop and deliver fire safety education programs to schools, businesses, and community organizations. Raise awareness about fire prevention strategies and emergency preparedness. Building Plan Review: Utilize expertise in building plan review to assess architectural and engineering plans for compliance with fire safety codes.
Provide recommendations for modifications to guarantee adherence to regulations. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and corrective actions. Prepare comprehensive reports for legal proceedings and departmental records.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, fire personnel, and local authorities to enhance fire safety measures and respond effectively to emergencies. Participate in training programs and drills to improve skills and knowledge. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest developments in fire safety regulations, codes, and technologies.
Attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions to enhance professional skills. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a certified firefighter training program.
NCDOI, Proboard, and IFSAC certification as Fire Inspector I. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Physical fitness and ability to perform the duties of a firefighter.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and strong analytical abilities. Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in building plan review. Additional certifications related to fire safety and prevention. Knowledge of relevant computer software for documentation and reporting.
