Purpose & Impact:

The Child Wellbeing Specialist provides critical case management support and clinical/medical expertise to case management teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for overall tracking and monitoring of medical, behavioral, and dental services for children under LSF supervision.
  • Obtains releases of information from clients and requests records from medical professionals. Conducts a comprehensive review of records to plan for necessary services and follow-up. Reviews recommendations provided by the Comprehensive Behavioral Health Assessment and other relevant records related to Child Well-being and assists with service referral needs.
  • Tracks and monitors compliance with the administration of psychotropic medication for children under supervision.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary staffings related to children with complex behavioral health needs, and those children eligible or involved with Agency for Persons with Disabilities and Children’s Medical Services.
  • Serves as CMO liaison to APD, CMS, and behavioral health and medical providers.
  • Accurately documents all case activities in the Florida Safe Families Network database within 48 hours and ensures medical tab in FSFN is updated and in compliance.
  • Serves as a medical subject matter expert for case management for children with complex behavioral health needs.
  • Completes required documentation, incident reports for children involved in Baker Act proceedings
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of community resources, program eligibility requirements, key contact persons, emergency procedures, and waiting lists of available resources. Maintain regular contact with service providers and document service progress in FSFN.
  • Attend all appointments, staff meetings, trainings, seminars, workshops, etc., as necessary, and as required by the direct supervisor.
  • Accompanies case managers/supervisors in the field to conduct behavioral health assessments.
  • Organize, prioritize, and complete all work assignments by the established deadlines.

  • Always carry an active cellphone during regularly scheduled work hours and respond to emergencies after hours as needed.

Other Functions:

Perform other related duties and special assignments as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have a high level of energy, be adaptable to irregular hours, be able to travel as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and appropriate auto liability insurance required.

Education/Experience:

Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in human services field; Master's degree in social services field preferred; licensure as a therapist or clinical social worker preferred. Experience in child welfare programs a plus.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use Microsoft Office programs Word and Excel.
  • Ability to drive both locally and throughout the state in connection with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to comprehensively review behavioral health/medical records and serve as a subject matter expert to case management teams for medical/clinical issues such as behavioral health, psychotropic medications, and developmental services. Ability to serve as liaison to Children’s Medical Services and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.

Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Reports directly to and follows directives of Permanency Manager.
  • Works cooperatively with Program/Assistant Program Directors, Supervisors, Case Managers, Lead Agency placement staff, Protective Investigators, Child Welfare Legal staff and with Lead Agency staff.
  • Effectively manages time to ensure that all children under supervision are receiving appropriate and necessary behavioral, medical, and dental care, and other coordinated services to ensure their well-being.
  • Follows Florida Statutes, Administrative Code, and written policies and procedures.
