Chief Operating Officer-Comprehensive Ophthalmology Practice

Gulf South Eye Associates was established in the early 1980's to provide comprehensive ophthalmology care with a focus on cataract, cornea, and glaucoma surgery. We have four board certified and fellowship trained medical doctors and one board certified optometrist. We recently relocated to a new office following the renovation of a building, allowing us to expand our clinical space.

We are currently seeking an administrator for this practice. This is a managerial position responsible for the efficient and effective administration of all aspects of the health care services at Gulf South Eye Associates, including the clinical, financial, administrative, information technology, and human resource systems. The individual should demonstrate the ability to achieve individual quality performance in daily duties, is team oriented, and seeks to produce timely and high quality results. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the practice, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Manage financial aspects of the practice, including budgeting, billing, and insurance claims.
  • Manage and supervise staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Regularly reviews financial and productivity management reports and takes appropriate actions.
  • Manages the account receivables and collection process.
  • Manages payroll and human resources.
  • Supervises and evaluates clinic production and revises procedures or implements new procedures to improve practice efficiency and compliance.
  • Works in conjunction with IT Professionals to ensure that IT systems and EMR are working properly.
  • Ensures regular communication with appropriate staff members to address concerns.
  • Cost Consciousness-Works with approved budget; develops and implements cost saving.
  • Plans and schedules staff meetings and in-service training for the teams.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and ensure timely delivery of services.

Position Requirements

  • 4+ years of management experience, preferably in a health care setting
  • Bachelor's degree in related area strongly preferred.
  • B.S./B.A. preferred or 5 years experience in clinic management.
  • Extensive understanding of physician practice operations.
  • Experience in a leadership position managing multiple physician practices.
  • Computer literacy essential. Knowledge of QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, EMR systems essential.
  • Experience in budgetary process and administrative accounting required.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payor, state and federal plans including coding, billing and reimbursement protocols.
  • At least 1 year of experience with electronic health/medical record systems preferred.
