Chief Information Officer

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a crucial position in shaping the organization's information technology strategy and leading the implementation and operations of Blackbaud's corporate technology. Your responsibilities will involve aligning technology initiatives with the overarching business objectives, guaranteeing that the company's corporate technology adequately supports its operations and objectives. It will be your responsibility to ensure the presence, proper maintenance, and optimal positioning of systems necessary to support the organization's functioning.

This role will include the following:

1). Technology Strategy: Develop and execute the organization's corporate technology roadmap, in line with the business strategy, to drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage.

2). IT Governance: Establish and enforce the corporate IT control framework inclusive of policies, procedures, and standards for the effective and secure use of technology across the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

3). Budget and Resource Management: Collaborate with executive leadership to define the corporate IT budget, allocate resources efficiently, and optimize technology investments while managing risks and costs effectively. Develop and manage the budget, ensuring sufficient resources are allocated for technology investments, returns are realized, and future investments are balanced across business needs.

4). Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.

5). Industry Knowledge and Leadership: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and threats. Act as a thought leader within the organization, advising senior management and the executive team on all technology matters.

6). Vendor Management: Evaluate and select technology vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services.

7). Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, evaluating their potential impact on the organization and recommending strategic technological advancements.

8). Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with business leaders, department heads, and cross-functional teams to understand their technology needs, identify opportunities for innovation, and align IT solutions with business requirements.

9). Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and implement plans to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity in the event of technological disruptions or disasters.

What you will do:

  • Support the enterprise mission, establish the operating model for data and technology that cultivates a business-oriented approach and fosters a culture of data and digital innovation. This includes shaping mindsets and practices within the organization to ensure a strategic focus on leveraging data and embracing digital advancements in achieving business goals.

  • Contribute actively to enterprise strategy and business capability strategic planning. Lead the development of the corporate IT strategic plan and roadmap. Ensure integration with the enterprise's strategic planning process, and the resulting business strategy and plans.

  • Establish active relationships with the company's executives and business unit leaders and members of their teams. Contribute as a business executive.

  • Ensure that IT contributions are delivered with agility based on changing business objectives, goals, and strategies.

  • Collaborate with CDO on the Data and Technology operating model, organizational structure, and governance process.

  • Utilize influencing and negotiation skills to foster collaboration and alignment throughout the organization, facilitating the implementation of cost-effective and innovative shared solutions that contribute to the attainment of business objectives.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and business partners to define and execute the digital business strategy. Participate in and contribute to the assessment of external digital opportunities and threats, and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.

  • Maintain currency on modern technologies and platforms. Provide direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the enterprise to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's digital business strategy. Provide strategic direction in the IT organization's innovation efforts and role in experimenting with modern solutions to take advantage of those opportunities in the fulfillment of the enterprise's digital business strategy.

  • Develop and control annual operating and capital expenditure budget for IT to ensure the investment in technologies is consistent with the enterprise's overall strategic objectives and is within plan.

  • Enhance IT's capabilities by leveraging many resources, both internally and externally. Direct the development of the IT sourcing strategy and provides executive oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.

  • Develop and maintain an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills, and competencies. Balance the need for growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives with ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable, and efficient.

  • Lead the establishment and execution of a digital workplace strategy that enables the development of digital dexterity in the workforce. Ensure employees have the tools and work environment to be more engaged, productive, and effective. Deliver an employee experience which is a differentiator in a remote-first workplace.

  • Participate and partner with the business leadership team to drive culture change in support of digital business transformation.

  • Drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure IT delivers value to the enterprise. Manages risks through the effective design, delivery and management of Data and Technology capabilities for the enterprise in collaboration with the CDO and the CISO.

What you will bring:

  • 15+ years of diverse experience in the field of IT, encompassing various roles and responsibilities. The ideal candidate should possess additional expertise in areas such as digital transformation, cyber security, and artificial intelligence (AI).

  • 10+ years of experience in leadership roles, demonstrating the ability to effectively lead teams and drive strategic initiatives.

  • Experience with compliance, risk management, and operations for technology product organizations.

  • Proven experience partnering with Cyber Security organizations to deliver healthy and secure solutions.

  • Proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading large, complex and or transformational initiatives in dynamic environments and taking advantage of digital opportunities to innovate business models and enable the digitalization of the business.

  • Recent hands-on experience in working with innovative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Experience with leading SaaS solutions enabling business areas such as Workday, Salesforce, Microsoft Office365 and ServiceNow preferred. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to apply these technologies to identify and leverage strategic business opportunities within an organization.

  • Experience with internal and external audit, Risk Management, and other partners in key regulated areas such as SOX, PCI, SOC, HIPAA, and other regulatory matters.
