Veterinary Services, Inc. (VSI) was incorporated in 1960, through a relationship between a few veterinarians and distribution industry sales leaders. VSI initially sold poultry-related health products to a broad customer base but over the years, VSI expanded into many diverse areas. Today, the company offers a broad line of products to over 3,000 customers, including those in the beef, dairy, and poultry business, as well as feed supply and pet stores. After operating the business as an ESOP for nearly 30 years, the company is now owned by an individual investor with ties to the pet supplies industry.
The company operates out of offices and warehouses in Oregon and California, with executive leadership based out of Albany, Oregon. There are nearly 300 employees, all who are committed to working through challenges with their customers and celebrating their successes along the way. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CEO, the CFO is a member of a three member executive team and will be responsible for leading the accounting, and financial planning and analysis functions of the company. The emphasis of the position is to build and maintain effective and efficient systems and processes to support future growth, and also to play a key role as a member of the leadership team, focusing on the overall growth strategy of the company. The CFO will embrace and embody the customer centric work culture of VSI. This role can be a hybrid position, based in either Albany, OR or Modesto, CA.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide insightful, data-driven, company and division level financial analysis and an independent perspective as the team makes strategic, cultural, and operational decisions.
Help engineer plans to further evolve the companys mission, values, market strategy and growth strategy.
Help team members see and understand the numbers that provide insight into the teams performance and opportunities. Lead the work of connecting numerical results and analytics with economic benefit that can be communicated to the Team, from Board Members to Managers.
Mentor members of the accounting team in their collaborative work to simplify processes, reduce hassles, eliminate sources of error and minimize the time spent on low productivity work.
Through the annual planning and budgeting process, produce thoughtful, strategically-focused budgets.
Manage a fully functioning and customer service focused accounting team that operates in a highly efficient manner, ensuring accuracy as well as timely financial reporting that is in compliance with GAAP and meets the needs of external users (tax authorities, banks).
Be a business partner to the CEO and COO.
Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Board, CEO and department leaders.
Manage banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash management.
Manage relationships with external CPA firm, banks, insurance brokers and attorneys, and continually build useful external professional service provider relationships.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA and public accounting experience is desired, but not required.
- MBA is a plus
- Ability to manage and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals. Has track record of mentoring employees who have since progressed to higher levels of responsibility.
- Experience working closely with a CEO.
