Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. WRPS was identified as "One of America's Safest Companies" in 2020; and was the recipient of the 2021 "Employeer of the Year" by the Association of Washington Businesses.
The Flowsheet Definition & Analysis group is responsible for maintaining and progressing the River Protection Project (RPP) Integrated Flowsheet by minimizing mission risk through the identification and closure of technical gaps. This includes developing and refining process flowsheets related to execution of the RPP Mission, specifically focusing around Direct-Feed Low-Activity Waste (DFLAW), waste feed delivery, future high-level waste processing, and new chemical processes that need additional definition. Flowsheet development activities often involve the use of flowsheet simulations, technical studies, and calculations to assess the robustness and validity of a particular process decision. Flowsheet engineers are at the forefront of Hanford mission planning, design, and operations, having the opportunity to see the big picture while working with the technical process engineering details of Hanford's systems.
This position is for a Chemical Engineer who will perform technical studies and evaluations in support of the RPP mission. This engineer will:
- Work as part of a dynamic team delivering the short- and long-term strategies for flowsheet development and planning.
- Perform systems engineering activities, including functional analysis and requirements definition, alternatives analysis, and risk assessment.
- Prepare and issue technical reports, evaluations, flowsheets, and spreadsheet calculations.
- Extract and analyze data from databases and process model output.
- Learn to develop and create data visualization graphics to communicate information with various audiences.
- Support the lead specialist engineer on a task force or special assignment.
- Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with engineering and external customers as needed.
- Experience opportunities for personal and professional development through mentoring, training, and collaboration.
- Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of assignments.
Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
Grade 15:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
One (1) year of experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 16:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
Two (2) years of experience

Desired Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with chemical process flowsheet development.
Experience with chemical process operations.
Proficiency using Microsoft Excel.

Hiring Range Minimum: $71,200
Hiring Range Maximum: $89,800

Hiring Range Minimum: $78,338

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
