JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant Department: Clinic
Reports To: Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant, under general supervision, performs the day to day nursing duties for a specifically assigned physician/CRNP/PA through treatment, discharge, and follow-up of the patient.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Triaging patients
- Checking voicemail and returning patient and pharmacy phone calls
- Taking hospital and ER consults and relay to proper physician or staff member
- Obtaining and updating patient information in practice management system
- Obtaining wound cultures
- Administering injections and medications
- Performing casting (application and removal)
- Wound checks
- Performing suture, staple removal, and dressing changes
- Perform autoclave duties
- Communicating clinical information for outside diagnostic testing (MRI, CT, EMG/NCV, etc.)
- Maintains a working knowledge of the physician's specialty, through CME's and other classes to remain proficient in the related field of nursing.
- Provides patient and family education through handouts and other media sources as necessary
- May be required to work for non-assigned physicians
- May be assigned non- nursing duties as deemed necessary by nursing supervisor
Other activities 5 percent of time: As assigned by Supervisor or Operations Manager. The above specified tasks may not be the only duties assigned. Employees will be required to carry out any other job-related instructions requested by their supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodations.
