Mississippi Urology Clinic, PLLC - Jackson / Flowood, MS has an immediate opening for a Certified Medical Assistant to join their team!


The Certified Medical Assistant assists providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas. Assists with patient examinations, triage, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. Performs general administrative duties in accordance with JCAHO, AAAHC, and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures.

EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification in Medical Assisting

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to set priorities. Must be able to manage stress appropriately and make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency within the unit.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, etc.
  • Ability to work within a team.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

JOB KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to anticipate clinical and administrative needs of doctors.
  • Knowledge of equipment.
  • Ability to function appropriately under stressful situations.
  • Must have physical and mental stamina to work fairly rapidly and accurately over long periods of time.
  • Reviews charts for current medications, treatments, height, weight and problem list.
  • Obtains and records patient vital signs, temperature, pulse, height, weight and blood pressure and reason for visit.
  • Directs patients to exam rooms; assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients in undressing, dressing and getting on and off the examination table. Notifies provider of patient’s arrival and readiness for their examination.
  • Assists providers with patient examinations and procedures, including (but not limited to) surgical procedures, diagnostic studies, and treatments. Operates and monitors functioning of equipment; hands instruments to the provider; assists with suctioning and holds patients; comforts patients.
  • Recognizes emergency situations, seeks assistance and intervenes appropriately. Monitors patient during and following procedures; looks for reactions and visible complications; reacts to emergency situations; notifies the appropriate person in the event of a medical emergency.
  • Applies and removes dressing under the direction of the provider.
  • Conducts EKG testing.
  • Administers medications orally, rectally and by injection.
  • Performs venipuncture, collects urine specimens, and checks urine. Handles all specimens using Universal Precautions.
  • Completes laboratory forms.
  • Interacts with patients regarding clinical complaints for effective and immediate response and resolution. Refers to Clinical Director as appropriate.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities and all training seminars (OSHA and others).
  • Assists in orientation of new employees in the absence of RN, shares pertinent information and teaches others to perform tasks.
  • Interacts and communicates professionally with co-workers.
  • Calls in prescriptions with physician approval using guidelines.
  • Secures patient signature on consent forms for invasive procedures.
  • Identifies patient and family needs and communicates with provider.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Sets up instrument trays for procedures, including sterile procedures.
  • Cleans, wraps and sterilizes instruments after procedures as appropriate to the specific procedure. Takes wrapped instruments to sterile processing, as appropriate within the practice.
  • Orders all medical supplies, places service calls for and performs maintenance on all medical equipment.
  • Keeps nursing area and exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly.
  • Documents care actions and patient responses.

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Utilizes time effectively and productively.
  • Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Adheres to established surgery center safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Identifies potentially unsafe conditions and notifies manager.
    • Practice infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.
    • Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and surgery center.
    • Demonstrates the competent usage or proper body mechanics in all activities.
  • Maintains equipment and is accountable for returning equipment to correct place.
  • Assists with personnel with cleaning of rooms and helps with the transport, positioning, and moving of patients.
  • Takes ownership of problems.

SERVICE EXCELLENCE

  • Commutates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
    • Documents all patient information according to established standards of care, policies and procedures.
    • Provides a report to oncoming personnel that is accurate, concise, and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care.
    • Provides pertinent patient information to the physician, family and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
    • Performs other activities as necessary within ability and training.
    • Maintains a safe and clean patient care environment.
  • Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional surgery center environment.
    • Displays a caring and responsive attitude and conducts all activities respecting patient, family and employee rights and expectations.
    • Maintains confidentiality of all facility and patient information as required by facility policy.
    • Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved.
    • Considers age specific needs in communication.

TEAM WORK

  • Participates in the orientation of staff as requested.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by manager.

COMPLIANCE

  • Adheres to MS Urology Clinic standards of business conduct.
  • Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
