SUMMARY:

The Central Support Specialist reports to the Central Support Manager and works in conjunction with Patient Access staff, Patient Accounts staff, Revenue Cycle, Patient Records staff, and EMR help. The Central Support Specialist is responsible for meeting with patients, parents, guarantors, and any staff related to questions pertaining to patient insurance coverage and/or patient out of pocket costs, formulation of financial agreements in addition to essential job functions and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Focus on continued performance improvement through early detection of problem-prone areas, identification of potential solutions, implementation of corrective actions, and execution of established plans.
  • Confirm that the auditing functions such as, checking the census for all locations to ensure all patients admitted the day prior are set up properly in EHR, and ensure this is conducted in timely manner to avoid AUTH HOLD on Wednesdays and weekly for claim run.
  • Audit and authorize patients that have been discharged from any inpatient program within 24-48 hours.
  • Review the Authorization Hold Report at prescribed minimum intervals, make required corrections, and email to billhelp for reprocessing.
  • Execute departmental processes to ensure accuracy of patient financial and other data to enable timely, accurate billing and collection of funds.
  • Organize financially-based work within the Patient Access Services department to support patient access pathways to Gosnold services.
  • Review, and rectify, as needed, errors or omissions on the Detox Modifier Report.
  • Verify commercial insurances for any potential patients for detox, CSS, PHP, and IOP.
  • Oversee the cash receipts through the following: closes previous deposit and creates new deposit in EHR manages daily cash receipts report, acceptance of patient payments upon admission and as indicated throughout stay.
  • Perform patient financial matters for detox and CSS to ensure the following obligations are fulfilled: refund requests are managed in timely manner, management of patient extensions for self-pay.
  • Manage denials, especially as they pertain to Emerson and financial arrangements after last covered day, management of all patient financial contracts.
  • Cultivate outstanding customer relations across team, with customers including patients, families, referral sources, and Gosnold staff.
  • Participate on teams related to billing and patient financial services as needed and maintain and promote effective working relationships with all Gosnold departments.
  • Compete priorities in conjunction with developing and meeting goals and objectives.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, Experience, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the job.

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred; however, equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Strong analytical, problem solving, report-writing, and other verbal/written communications skills.
  • Experience: At least three (3) years in a business or finance setting, preferably one related to healthcare systems, inclusive of reimbursement and operational procedures.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, management and other professionals to achieve objectives.
