Basic Statement of Responsibilities
Conducts appropriate level of instruction for adult students in the areas of basic education, General Education Development (GED), National External Diploma Program (NEDP) and college and career readiness.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
• Bachelor's Degree (Required)
• Teacher's Certification (Preferred)
• Knowledge of adult student characteristics
• Knowledge of adult basic education content areas-Math, Reading, Science & Social Studies
• Ability to effectively use technology to organize and produce student progress reports, communicate with students, and other Adult Education Staff
• Ability to make decisions concerning student instruction and assessment
• Exceptions to the requirements will be considered based on exemplary skills, training, and record of success.
Organizational Relationships
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
• This position is responsible for the implementation of basic education instruction to adult students
• Under minimal supervision, delivers instruction as specified in program curriculum guides
• With the assistance of the Instructional Specialist, plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, goals and abilities of the adult learner
• Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
• Uses a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques including text and technology based (i.e., Internet, video, audio)
• Meets and instructs classes as designated
• Prepares for all classes assigned
• Determines the correct entry level of students
• Evaluates and orients students through a variety of assessments and evaluations (Diagnostic, Formative, and Summative)
• Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
• Counsels with students regarding instruction and program services
• Integrates Maryland Technology Standards into classwork.
• This position requires the ability to make routine decisions regarding the everyday operation of the classes assigned
• Plans ahead for all assigned duties
• Updates knowledge on effective teaching through attendance at professional development workshops
• Reacts to immediate and changing needs of students and supervisors
• Provides suggestions for improving program instruction and operating procedures
• Seeks training opportunities to meet personal development goals
Communication/Human Relations:
• This position requires regular interaction with students, teachers and the general public.
• Communicates frequently with students, teachers and the Instructional Specialist.
• Communicates regularly with the general public in a professional manner.
• Establishes positive rapport with students served.
Supervision and Organization of Staff:
• This position is mentored by the Instructional Specialist and supervised by the Program Director.
Secondary Responsibilites
• Function within the policies and administrative procedures of the program.
• Accept other responsibilities as assigned.
• Attend all meetings and in-service training as needed.
• Travel independently to fulfill the requirements of the position.
