Role Summary
About the Role: The Category Purchasing Manager, Logistics position is responsible for developing and implementing the regional supply base strategies for their categories, ensuring that the strategy is specific, fact-based, comprehensive, consistent, well-communicated and delivers superior financial returns and a competitive advantage to the business. In addition, the Category Purchasing Manager, Logistics ensures the strategy developed is dynamic and responsive to the market, customer, supplier, and company needs.
This individual has primary responsibility for the supplier relationship and drives supplier selection, development, and overall supplier management. The Category Purchasing Manager, Logistics works with the Group Purchasing Leads to ensure a shared vision and alignment with overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Your Responsibilites:
- Develop procurement strategy and sourcing in terms of technology, quality, delivery and total cost.
- Coordinate all supplier issues with applicable functional organizations.
- Establish and manage key supplier performance goals and objectives; communicate periodic results to plan and manage top-level continuous improvement; develop keen awareness of industry performance benchmarks.
- Manage and negotiate supply agreements in support of overall supply chain goals and objectives.
- Keep abreast of professional developments and manufacturing techniques.
- Initiate/lead/participate in annual cost reduction and other value improvement projects.
- Coordinate supplier development with applicable functional organizations.
- Responsible for supplier recommendation on a commodity basis and work with the Divisional Buyers to implement these sourcing recommendations.
- Research key commodities/products to support the global, regional, and local requirements.
- Coordinate with production and new product buying functions to integrate common suppliers/technology.
- Assist in the supplier development process to ensure success internally/externally.
- Maintain continuous in-depth knowledge of market conditions, industry trends, and developing techniques.
- Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
- Handle other related duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Who we are looking for:
- Business or Supply Chain Degree or Equivalent with related work experience
- Candidate must have thorough understanding of the transportation industry in North America,
- Evidence of sourcing external national and international commercial transportation needs for multi-national, automotive parts supplier or, creation of network with extensive execution and oversight of repetitive transportation & logistics requirements within the continental USA and abroad
- Five (5) to Eight (8)+ years Purchasing experience, with a primary focus on external transportation and logistics for a large multi-plant enterprise, automotive parts supplier or similar, or; Five (5) to Ten (10) years Materials, Planning & Logistics experience for a large multi-plant enterprise, automotive parts supplier
- Ability to work on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.
- Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Act independently to determine methods, processes and procedures on new assignments and may supervise the activities of internal and external, multi-level staffing and their progress and development.
- Interpret and comply with Company policies and procedures, in concert with Company practices, developed and applied within the standards for ethics & compliance regulations.
- Prepares report, cost analysis, charts, graphs, and other statistical information.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other software and systems for statistical analysis.
