Position Details
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Oversees work of other mechanics and/or trades helpers.
- Performs routine maintenance on building structural features, architectural features, wall systems, flooring systems, ceiling systems, windows and doors.
- Responds to all carpentry trouble calls and requests throughout the facilities.
- Inspects, tests, assures integrity of all related building features and systems throughout the facilities. Requesting work orders, completing work orders, and issuing status reports to supervision and/or management.
- Reads blue prints, diagrams, specifications, and lays out/performs work in accordance with all standards, regulations and/or applicable codes.
- Ability to use various hand and power tolls in the performance of work, including rules, measurement instruments, fastening tools, leveling systems, etc.
- Performs “Rough Out”, “Finish”, and “Repair” work in accordance with all accepted industry standards. Work includes, but is not limited to framing (wood & steel), sheetrock installation, ceiling installation, flooring installation, and furniture installation/assembly.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers, compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’ regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Technical school diploma or equivalent knowledge.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsibility and experience as a carpenter, at least three (3) years of which shall have involved taking a lead in installation, repair, and maintenance of all applicable components/systems.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state and national codes.
- Position requires the individual to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and climb or balance up to 2/3 of the time, to sit, kneel, crouch or crawl, to talk to hear and to taste or smell less than a 1/3 of the time; to lift a weight or exert force from 10-25 pounds up to 2/3 of the time, from 50 to over 100 pounds 1/3 of the time. Ability to perform physical labor without restrictions, including lifting equipment in excess of fifty pounds, performing work on rocks, scaffolding and ladders. The position requires close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.
- The individual in this position may be exposed to environmental such as wet or humid conditions (non – winter), work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat or cold (non – weather), to risk radiation less than 1/3 of the time. Moderate noise is typical for the work environment.
