CoBank interns get real-life exposure to the daily duties of their group. They spend the summer as a valued member of their respective team, learning business skills and assisting with a variety of projects that have an impact on the bank’s operations. An additional focus of the summer intern will be to complete a capstone project that will seek to add value to the team they are supporting.
At CoBank, our Capital Markets Summer Intern works with our five Capital Markets teams in producing pitch material, special strategic projects and assist with deal preparation and execution. The intern gets exposure with working in conjunction with all seven bank lending divisions on transactions serving the vital industries of food, agribusiness, telecommunications, and natural gas, water, and electric utility providers. Projects can range anywhere from assisting in a market sounding, questionnaire formulation, industry analysis, sales and market sector analysis. The position reports into the Head of Business Administration Management that supervises all of our full time Capital Markets analysts.
The Capital Markets division is responsible for working with Relationship Managers in structuring, underwriting and pitching syndicated loan offerings to our customers. Capital Markets is responsible for maintaining and developing the investor relationships to whom we sell syndicated loan, which include other Farm Credit System entities, commercial banks, insurance companies and institutional investors as well as being responsible for the distribution and secondary trading of credit that is underwritten, purchased or sold. The division has five teams that work in unison ranging from origination to syndicate to sales to agency loan execution to reports/analysts development.
This is a paid position for undergraduate and graduate students and is located in Denver, Colorado.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in and working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration & Management, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Ag Economics, or a related disclipline and in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic understanding of balance sheets, income statements and cash flows.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to model in Excel.
- Aptitude for learning other software applications.
- Ability to perform research across multiple systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communications.
- Experience/ high-level of personal interest in banking or the financial services industry.
Compensation Information:
- Undergraduate student - $21.00
- Masters student - $25.00
- Plus $3,500 summer living/housing stipend
