MBA Investing Intern

About the company:
Members of the Downing Capital Group team are investor-entrepreneurs. We are a new breed of venture capital firm: members of our team are business builders, not merely capital providers. Our unique model turns conventional VC on its head: we begin with our own business ideas, recruit management teams to execute them, and then capitalize these ventures. The vast majority of the firm's capital will be invested in ideas incubated internally.
How you will make an impact:
The role of MBA Investing Intern will work closely with our Investment Professionals to drive the firm's mission to develop and grow new portfolio companies by:

• Research both new and established business models to screen for opportunities to add to the Downing portfolio.
• Conduct detailed analyses that includes determining market size, competitive landscapes, unit economics, and customer demands.
• Work closely with the Investment team to fill any diligence gaps in our research processes.
• Collaborate and eventually lead advisory knowledge calls with preeminent experts in targeted areas of study.
• Assist with compiling investment memorandum and other documentation to present to investment committee.
• Develop business plans for selected new portfolio companies.
• Help identify talent for portfolio companies including the executive teams.
• Write whitepapers/primers on interesting technology and/or venture capital trends.

What you will bring to the table:

• Current MBA candidate in a top-tier program pursuing a career in early-stage investing or startup operations.
• Professional experience analyzing business models either in a financial services or consulting environment.
• Bright, driven, curious, low-ego, and passionate about working with a dynamic start-up.
• Meticulous attention to detail and organization.
• Maintains the highest level of professional ethics and integrity.
• Demonstrated ability to set priorities, track details, and provide senior management with all the necessary information to facilitate and expedite decisions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong desire for and demonstrated interest in network building.
• Affinity for joining a high-performing team that values collaboration, expectations of excellence, candor, and deep analysis.
• Start-up experience preferred.

Details and Compensation:

• Preference for 10-20 hours of availability per week while in-semester.
• Opportunity to join the team as a summer intern if there is mutual interest.
