Temporary position - 40 hours.
The Diabetes Association at People, Incorporated is currently seeking Camp Counselors to work during multiple weeks of the year during school breaks. The Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting in the safety and oversight of the assigned program area while providing leadership to camp participants and abiding by Camps Jack's guidelines and protocols. The Jack Rua Camp for Children with Diabetes ("Camp Jack") is a Type 1 diabetes camp.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Attend mandatory orientation dates, trainings, and educational programming as required
- Act as role model for program participants
- Assist with implementation of scheduled camp activities
- Assist program leaders in activities and maintain order of program area at all times
- Enforce program safety rules and preform minor First Aid on campers when necessary
- Provide support for special days and all other camp activities
- Implement back-up activities for campers during any down time
- Report all unusual activity to the Camp Director
- Solve problems and manage behaviors when necessary
- Maintain a safe and clean environment and report any concerns to the Camp Director
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled
- Participate in all required program and Agency trainings
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to provide current copy of CPR/First Aid certification and required health records
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with campers and coworkers
- Must be 18 or older
- A qualifying criminal background check, driving record, and a valid driver's license required
