Job description

The MetroWest YMCA is a leading local non-profit organization for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Ninja Sports Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for providing sport and activity instruction including activity engagement and supervising campers. Aside from teaching sports, the counselor will serve as a role model and mentor for the camp participants. Camp counselors are responsible for organizing games and activities not directly associated with any sports, as well as supervising pool and water activities. This position is responsible for contributing to a safe and fun environment during camp and providing a quality experience to campers focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. Pay $16.00 - $17.00 per hour depending upon experience! Equal Opportunity Employer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervises, engages, and assists with campers and camp group.

Organizes and supervises camp games and activities, while following daily schedule.

Responsible for adhering to sign in and sign out procedures when opening and/or closing the camp day.

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Will model relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Report to the Camp Director any concerns about a camper’s health, safety, or well-being

Be accessible at all times to assist with the camper discipline and emergency situations.

Be an integral part of the camper discipline system, working with individual campers, helping staff through problems and being a general resource.

Prepare for and actively participate in scheduled swim time. (1 staff must swim with group.)

Prepare for and actively participate in camp activities that include dress up days.

Ensure that the Camp Director is given proper documentation and made aware of all behavior challenged, injuries and incidents that occur throughout the day, in a timely manner.

Understand, follow, and enforce the safety and health regulations set forth by the YMCA and the Board of Health.

Encourage communication among counselors and campers to leadership to maintain a happy and successful environment.

Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings/trainings, and professional development.

Represent yourself and the MetroWest YMCA in a positive and professional manner.

Be a role model to campers and peers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience coaching and/or working with kids ages 3 to 13 years old. Previous camp experience preferred.

Ability to form positive interactions with youth and families.

Strong communication skills, ability to help youth grow personally and achieve goals.

Work as a team member to ensure safety at all times.

Experience with people from diverse backgrounds.

Be a positive role model.

Ability to be CPR/AED and First Aid certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have the physical ability to plan, lead, and participate in physical camp games and activities.
  • Must be comfortable in outdoor setting in various weather conditions
  • Works in a busy indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Be comfortable swimming and around bodies of water. Counselors are expected to swim with campers during scheduled times.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
