Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role

General Motor's Metrology and Strain Gage Support team is seeking a Calibration Technician. In this role, you will p erform calibration on medium to high level test and measurement instrumentation and assist in general lab duties. You will follow the GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to execute the GM Instrumentation Knowledge Center Test Laboratory business plan. This role is in an office and clean lab environment. There will be minimal travel required.

What You’ll Do

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Occasionally required to drive GM owned vehicles on and off GM property for business.
  • Perform calibration of medium to high level test and measurement equipment. Requires little assistance and supervision on such work.
  • Coordinate and provide service for field calibrations and maintenance.
  • Create calibration data sheets accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision based upon instrument specifications and approved calibration procedures.
  • Develop calibration procedures, with supervision, to meet the needs of the customers.
  • Interface with customers to schedule items requiring calibration, repair, or limited calibration.
  • Perform other laboratory support functions as required in an efficient and orderly manner.
  • Interface with product, and testing engineers on updates to new testing procedures, equipment, and methods.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Ability to achieve HV level 2 badge requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of metrology practices and theories in a particular discipline(s): electronics, mechanics, dimensional analysis, chemistry, thermometry, acoustics, and vibration.
  • Experience in the use of various hand tools and test equipment for a particular discipline,
  • Ability to use personal computers, Windows-based software, and laboratory automation software.
  • Ability to apply intermediate algebraic and geometric techniques necessary for measurement analysis.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Two years of college with A.A. degree in electronic technology or other technical program or minimum of 5 years commercial or military experience in the field of metrology
  • Skilled in communication with customers and peers, including the ability to mentor apprentices.
  • Valid US Driver’s License

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Preferred, 7+ Years’ Experience in metrology.
  • Preferred, knowledgeable of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z-540-1 requirements.
