Job description

Dresden High School is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Cafeteria Manager.
Overview
It is the responsibility of the Cafeteria Manager to oversee the daily operation of the school cafeteria under the supervision of the School Nutrition Director, School Nutrition Field Manager, and the School Principal for the health, comfort, and benefit of the students.
Cafeteria Manager Compensation = $25,725 plus eligible for benefits
200 days - 7.5 hours/day = 1500 hours (Prorated depending on when hired.)
$17.15/hour
Receives 4 paid sick days and 5 paid holidays per school year (Prorated depending on when hired.)
Cafeteria Managers can earn additional income bonuses for attendance, SNA certification, perfect health inspection scores, and cafeteria on-site reviews.
Pay is divided over 12 months.
This position receives retirement contributions and is eligible for health insurance benefits.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of 1-year food service experience and 1-year management experience. College experience preferred.
Completion of Food Safety in Schools - ICN, Nutrition 101 - ICN, & SNA certification preferred (Will be completed upon hiring)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES OF THE CAFETERIA MANAGER
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
o Train staff to ensure all meal patterns are followed and that Offer Verses Serve is implemented correctly.
o Train staff to ensure that crediting and claiming standards are followed for all meal services by maintaining proper documentation and following USDA guidelines.
o Learn all essential functions of the cafeteria and train new employees on job expectations.
o Learn how to properly operate all food service equipment and train new employees. Report needed repairs to the maintenance department promptly.
o Attend all mandatory trainings and meetings and train staff upon return. Ensure all annual mandatory trainings are completed for staff and that food safety/HACCP/SDS/COVID-19 protocols are followed in your cafeteria.
o Supervise and coordinate cafeteria staff on a day-by-day basis by developing and maintaining written job duties and cleaning schedules and by securing substitutes when necessary.
o Oversee food production to ensure every meal is nutritious and appealing.
o Ensure all food items purchased meet the Buy American guidelines.
o Ensure that orders for food, milk, chemicals, produce, and other items are submitted weekly
o Ensure orders are checked in at delivery to verify accuracy, quality, and quantity. Reports errors in delivery such as shorts, inferior product, and incorrect pricing.
o Ensure stock is stored with consideration given to proper food safety and handling procedures.
o Ensure inventory is maintained daily by utilizing pull sheets, production records, and inventory spreadsheets. When using inventory, utilize the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.
o Ensure all areas including but not limited to the serving area, kitchen, storage spaces, dish room, and manager office are properly cleaned and organized.
o Ensure cashiers properly credit and charging patron (staff and students) accounts for meals and a la carte items.
o Ensure day end monitoring procedures are conducted by checking patron balances, making deposits, and checking reconciliation and meal count reports. Follow approved guidelines for counting and recording monies. Ensure deposits are verified and signed by a 2nd person.
o Maintain equipment and food temperature logs daily.
o Ensure that cafeteria is attractive and welcoming for all patrons and parents.
o Ensure staff exhibit customer service, professionalism, teamwork, & staff morale by modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions and by correction when needed.
o Work with students, principals, teachers, parents and others to resolve concerns and to continually improve the food service operation.
o Promote increasing meal participation through good public relations, marketing skills, and superior food quality.
o Ensure all paperwork including but not limited to physical inventory counts, production records, monthly reports, and invoices are maintained and turned in at designated times.
o Analyze financial reports and create action plans to ensure the cafeteria operation is efficient and financially sound.
o Check-in regularly during breaks to ensure everything is operational.
o YOU are whatever your kitchen needs you to be on any given day. You are the go-to person for your school cafeteria and should be able to make logical decisions and act quickly.
SKILLS NEEDED TO ADEQUATELY PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
• General knowledge of School Nutrition, food service management, and general office practices are necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities.
• Teachable, coachable, and proactive disposition.
• Desire to learn and the innate desire to perform the job well.
• Develop and administer staff work schedules and plans for the expedience and effectiveness of specific duties of the department.
• Keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, computer operations, and equipment needs as they pertain to the cafeteria and school.
• Adapt to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Assemble information and submit emails, reports, and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner.
• Exhibit good organizational, human relations, and technical skills. Use independent judgment and work with little direct supervision when necessary.
• Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the terminology, principles, and methods utilized within the department.
• Mathematical ability to calculate orders, meal components, and for altering recipes.
• Knowledgeable and proficient with computers. Must be able to correspond with email and text, perform internet searches, use online platforms for placing orders, operate our Point of Service program, and be fluent in Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel.
• Able to read, understand and interpret financial reports and related materials.

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of food service equipment and automated office machines. Must be able to move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION and TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to speak to people in way that shows respect and fosters communication and cooperation. Must be adaptable to performing under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency related to the position of Cafeteria Manager.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Must be able to speak English. Must be able to read and comprehend a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related to the job of Cafeteria Manager. Requires the ability to write with proper format using punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to explain procedures and policies. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines, and objectives.
INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job of Cafeteria Manager.
NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; determine time and weight.
ATTENDANCE: A regular and dependable level of attendance is an essential function for this position. Requires the ability to report to work on time and stay during the designated hours. Absences should only occur when absolutely necessary and must be reported to School Nutrition Director and School Nutrition Bookkeeper.
