Multi Unit Store Manager Job Description

We are seeking a Multi Unit Retail Store Manager to organize and drive daily operations and motivate our staff to provide excellent service. In the role of Retail Store Leader, your responsibilities would include managing day-to-day operations of the location, on-boarding new baristas, off-boarding, and training employees on drinks preparation and proper use of equipment. You will help guide the experience of all baristas by providing constructive feedback and managing the performance management process, and documentation process. You should also be able to work various shifts, including weekends, and be available when needed. You will be expected to work our busiest days on the floor, perform administrative work, and oversee two of our cafes in the San Francisco Cow Hollow and Financial Districts. 

The Store Manager’s responsibilities will include scheduling shifts for baristas, monitoring daily expenses and revenues, inventory control, and presenting sales reports and inventory. Order supplies like coffee, milk, provision etc. as needed. You are responsible for the appearance and communication. To be successful in this role, you should have strong people management skills, the ability to performance manage your staff at all times, enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people, be dependable, and reliable, and have a passion for coffee. Also, you should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays as needed. 

Ultimately, you will help increase profitability, boost customer engagement, and help us turn our cafe locations into a favorite local spots in the community. 

This is a full-time, hourly position based in San Francisco and will report directly to our Director of Retail Operations. 

PEOPLE & CULTURE: Communicate proactively, professionally, and positively with the team and guests. Follow up consistently with employees and managers to help bridge the gap between upper management and employees. Demonstrate compassion and care in relationships with teams while setting clear expectations and accountabilities. Identify difficult situations and escalate to the manager in a proactive manner. Document and follow the process of performance management.  Represent Red Bay Coffee’s core values and company mission. Assist with the coaching of the team to meet standards, perform well, and treat one another respectfully.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Follow all COVID-19 protocols and meet cleanliness standards. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed even when you are not present. Ensure safety, harassment, injuries or any other issues brought to your attention are reported and communicated to the manager or group manager immediately.

HOSPITALITY: Maintain an environment that is passionate about hospitality. Assist in educating baristas so that they are fluent with the Red Bay Coffee mission, values, culture, and the story of our coffees. Learn how to build relationships with guests by communicating warmly and authentically. Seek opportunities to engage with guests and build community. Deliver timely, professional, and knowledgeable service. Exceed guest expectations.

BUSINESS ACUMEN: Assist in developing and maintaining a labor schedule that is efficient and cost-effective. Support with timely payroll and admin tasks timely and accurately. Work with daily cash and the POS system. Attend scheduled management meetings. Maintain regular communication with the market GM concerning operation details. Build and foster relationships with local businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain employee records on performance, personal issues, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations

  • Manage day-to-day operations of our cafes residing in the Ferry Building, Cow Hollow, and Financial Districts
  • Regularly giving and receiving positive and constructive feedback and continuously coaching your baristas to encourage development and be their absolute best 
  • In addition to RBC’s training program, you are responsible for ensuring ongoing training of employees, on drinks preparation, proper use of coffee equipment, and store operations 
  • Coordinate with various vendors and order supplies, as needed (like cups, lids, stir stix, coffee, milk, and other ingredients) 
  • Ensure all cafe areas are clean, neat, organized, and stocked with provisions and supplies
  • Collaborate with other teams at Red Bay and your Manager to engage our community and recruit 
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase overall engagement and excitement 
  • Work on the bar and on the floor, not only to help the team in busy periods but to stay connected to the beauty of the work and find ways to continually refine workflow. 
  • Advise staff on the best ways to resolve issues with clients and deliver excellent customer service 
  • Maintain updated records of daily, weekly, and monthly revenues and expenses
  • Assist with catering set-up, schedule, and coordination efforts 
  • Create a monthly schedule for your team of baristas to balance individual, team, and location needs to meet business goals 
  • Controlling and maintaining labor costs per position and schedule: maintaining operational efficiencies 
  • Assist with launching new locations as we expand to additional markets 

Qualifications: 

  • Previous leadership experience in retail/hospitality industry - coffee, food & beverage industries preferred 
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines 
  • Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays) 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team 
  • Retail management experience leading a team of 15+ people 
  • An understanding of a profit and loss statement, and knowledge of how to utilize it - revenues, costs, and expenses 
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer applications, specifically Google Drive tools (Sheets, Docs, Calendar) 
  • Love Coffee, providing a phenomenal customer service experience, and enjoy coaching and motivating a team of diverse people
