Compensation: Salary: $120,000 - $140,000, plus commission

Business Development Manager General Summary:
A successful outside Business Development Manager (BDM) will research & identify potential customers
within the Life Science industries which are in need of automation services. The BDM will be capable of
visiting, vetting, developing / nurturing new customer relationships that generate new business quote
activity. The BDM will work with their internal Application Team to develop the concept, price and
draft a quote per the customers’ expectations. The BDM will present the R+D solution (quote) to the
customer with the goal of earning the sale (PO). The BDM will constantly strive to add new business
monthly / quarterly / yearly to their pipeline while maintaining and growing existing customer
relationships in conjunction with Account Managers (AM) & Application Engineers (AE).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Pipeline Forecasting
o Responsible for developing a continuous and robust new customer pipeline of R+D
approved customers within the Life Science industries.
o Responsible for developing active (existing) customer pipelines, identifying and maintaining
strong growth of new customers aligned with the R+D Sales Strategy, within designated
sales territory (if applicable).
o Teaming with R+D Account Managers, Project Managers and/or Application Engineers to
strengthen and grow customer relationships through the execution of customer PO’s, and
will be the primary customer relationship manager.
• New Business
o Develop new and existing customer pipeline aligned with R+D Core Target Market & Sales
Strategy.
o Strive to develop new business to meet individual and company quarterly & annual
Bookings and Revenue targets.
o Deliver highly interested and vetted customers to R+D Sales Team and collaborate to help
earn the business.
o Administer presentations to customers, describing R+Ds capacities in an intelligent and
comprehensive manner.
• Account Management
o Manage customer relationships to maximize the opportunity with R+D.
o Act as liaison between new & active customers and in-house Project Managers, as
needed.
o Manage, coordinate, and deliver project quotes to customers in a timely fashion by properly
assessing customer needs and managing internal process to deliver proper expectations.
o Have an active customer base to ensure bookings and sales revenue expectations, per
Sales Manager’s directed goals / targets.
• Other
o Strength in technical sales environment, supported by personal experience.
o Execute weekly/monthly sales goals in accordance with R+D’s sales plan.
o Participate in weekly department meetings and attend other meetings, as needed.
o Update weekly sales follow-up calendar and quote forecasting databases.
o Understanding of Quote and Project submission processes as outlined in ISO documents.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in sales, technical, Business Development or equivalent required.
2. 5 - 10 years of experience in the technical sales environment required (Capital Equipment for
Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Biotech or Life Sciences is highly preferred).
3. Proven expertise in delivering client-focused solutions based on customer needs.
4. Proven ability to be organized and manage multiple projects at a time with impeccable attention to
details.
5. Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
7. Working knowledge of engineering practices, including design for manufacturability, maintainability,
reliability, safety, and machine shop practices
8. Excellent organizational, time management, and follow-up skills
9. High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
A valid driver’s license and appropriate level of automobile insurance coverage, compliant with
local and state laws are required.
