Job Description
The CVI Program is designed to interrupt the cycles of violence by providing street outreach, violence interruption, case management services and job readiness training to individuals that have been disconnected from work and school, are gang-involved and/or are exiting the prison/jail system to ensure a successful path to reduced recidivism and becoming productive members of our community.
The Transitional Jobs program component provides temporary paid jobs to participants while they continue to receive support services such as case management and job placement assistance. The program is designed to improve behavioral and performance job skills and increase the likelihood of gainful employment by providing participants with work experience through temporary, subsidized jobs (i.e., job wages are subsidized by the program). The goal is to successfully transition individuals from temporary, subsidized jobs to gainful, full-time unsubsidized employment. Gainful, legitimate employment, in turn, should reduce recidivism and the odds that program participants engage in illegitimate employment.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the DHDC CVI Program Director, the Business Developer will create transitional employment opportunities for clients in a sheltered workforce as part of the CVI program. This position is responsible for a wide range of activities to include but are not limited to:
- Develop a sustainable business model to continue the project beyond the grant. The model should include ongoing contracts that provide sufficient income to sustain the project.
- Locate and secure contracts with businesses and private residents for projects such as cleaning and securing the interior and exterior of empty properties; grass, leave and snow removal; minor demolition; and boarding up properties. Creates contracts to summarize jobs and reimbursement to be paid to DHDC.
- Coordinate with Worksite Supervisor to develop schedule for sheltered workforce.
- Identify new markets to tap into and conduct market research that identifies new business development opportunities.
- BSP Certification (not required, but a plus)

- Must be computer literate (proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)

- The Business Developer will need to have an Associates or equivalent training and experience in business management, in business, marketing, or related fields and
- Two or more years of professional experience. reaching out to businesses and securing contracts.
- Experience entering participant data in a data management system.
- A valid driver's license and registered and insured vehicle.
- Pass background check:
- Child Abuse clearance through the State of Michigan
- Driving record through the State of Michigan SOS
- Drug Testing
