Definition of Classification:

The Brand Manager is responsible for providing strategies to elevate and amplify the university brand and message in support of the University’s strategic imperatives, with a primary focus on enrollment. This position will work with teams across the university and external agencies to ensure consistency of look, feel, and messaging in all brand placement tactics. They will coordinate across creative, content, digital, and marketing teams to ensure quality control, tracking, and timely completion of tasks.

Reporting to the Director of Creative and Content, as a key collaborator, this position will liaise with partners both internally and externally to preserve brand integrity, oversee campaigns, and track integrated marketing communications activities.

This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, to regional campuses and attend University events outside normal business hours as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating brand strategies that help to drive revenue growth.
  • Manages university brand and reputational efforts; collaborates with outside partners to measure brand health.
  • Collaborates with schools and departments on creative needs.
  • Provides design support to bring the brand to life in a unique, compelling, and exciting way across all forms of tactics.
  • Prioritizes areas of need and alignment of resources with those priorities.
  • Manages and coordinates university branding efforts.
  • Recommends and manages market research activities, as needed, to support marketing and brand objectives.
  • Supervises the management of marketing and communications projects, including (but not limited to) digital advertising, print advertising, direct mail marketing, brochures, videos and photos.
  • Coordinates across creative, content, digital, marketing, and communications teams to ensure quality control and tracking to ensure projects are completed on established timelines and within established budgets.
  • Works with production partners to facilitate the delivery of print collateral.
  • Manages quality control process for all projects; communicates with campus partners/clients and internal team members to execute changes and provide final products to Executive Director before sharing revised copy client/campus partner.
  • Serves as the office liaison to campus community partners; obtains correct information on project requests and continues to update campus partners on progress, timelines, proofs, and revisions; determines the best strategy for projects.
  • Manages Canva, design projects, and all branded collateral to ensure that all materials are within brand standards.
  • Provides training and brand education as needed; establishes a central brand portal for toolkits and templates.
  • Develops brand ambassador program; ensures experience and strategies are in alignment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Experience/Training/Education:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, MBA, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in overseeing a complex, multi-faceted marketing and digital, branding, creative, or design organization within a company, university, or agency; preferably in higher education but not required.
  • Prior experience in positioning and packaging work for key product offerings.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Preferred

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, MBA, or related fields from an accredited University.
  • Preferred knowledge of and familiarity with higher education environments and admissions recruiting.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising principles.
  • Ability to manage and track spending and budget efficiently.
  • Outstanding design, editorial, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills including the ability to eloquently convey branding vision and priorities to administration, faculty, staff, students, and outside constituencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities.
  • Ability to connect the dots between all parts of integrated marketing communications.
  • Knowledge of brand management and stewardship as well as developing and maintaining identity standards.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented without losing sight of the big picture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
  • Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and work with confidentiality.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Working Conditions:

Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours as well as travel to regional campuses and attend University events outside normal business hours as required.

Physical Demands:

Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate's qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK: Possession of a valid Driver's License is required for certain positions. PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS: For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics, and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
