The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is seeking nominations for individuals from MCN nonprofit member organizations to represent their communities and serve on its board of directors. If helping MCN shape our direction, focus, and impact, we encourage you to nominate yourself or a colleague for an open board position.
MCN strives to recruit Board Members who bring diverse perspectives, professional expertise, and lived experiences to ensure we live our stated values. MCN strongly encourages any and all nonprofit leaders from organizations across Minnesota to apply, with special areas of focus for 2025 including those representing:
- Nonprofits in Greater Minnesota
- Rural nonprofits
- Newer nonprofits with under five years of operations
- Nonprofits with budgets under $200,000
Nominations will be open until Sunday, August 4 at 11:59 p.m., and MCN's board nominating committee is seeking at least five candidates to be nominated for up to three open positions. Voting will open in October, and three-year terms for the newly elected Board Members will start in January 2025. Nominees must represent current MCN nonprofit member organizations.
You can learn more about the MCN board, including current members, officers, board roles and responsibilities, election process, and the nomination form at www.mcnboard.org.
BOARD MEMBERS ARE ASKED TO:
- attend at least four (out of five) board meetings each year, including the board retreat (1-2 day commitment in September with a short board meeting);
- attend MCN's Annual Conference (two-day commitment in the fall);
- serve on at least one committee (estimated 6-12 hour commitment per year); and
- serve as MCN's advocate among other nonprofits and the public at large.
BENEFITS OF SERVICE
- A unique and rewarding opportunity to meet and serve alongside other nonprofit leaders from a broad representation of organizations and to make a lasting impact on the nonprofit sector in Minnesota.
- A modest time commitment of about 3-4 hours per month (not including travel time to meetings and the September board retreat).
- Meetings are held during the workday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The commitment to attend events and meetings outside of working hours is minimal.
- MCN reimburses Board Members from greater Minnesota (that is, outside the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area) for their mileage to and from board meetings.*
- Virtual participation is available for Board Members not able to attend the meeting in person.
- Board members may attend all MCN events free of charge.
At present, all MCN board and committee meetings are being hosted virtually via Zoom, alleviating the need for directors to attend in-person in St. Paul.
