Are you interested in forging your way into the biotech industry? Do you like the idea of support biotech research experiments or ensuring that biotech products meet industry standards? Then, the Career Forge program might be for you!

LabCentral Ignite runs a 3-week program called Career Forge, which trains and facilitates the placement of underrepresented individuals into lab-based roles in the biotech industry, such as in Research Associate and Quality Control Analyst positions. We do this by partnering with hiring teams in our early-stage startup and biopharma network. Below is more information about Career Forge for those who are interested:

Who: First-generation students, women, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color) or other underrepresented individuals who hold or are in their final year of an associate or bachelor’s degree in science

What: Following a rigorous training and upskilling program, Career Forge prepares its participants to enter the workforce as Research Associates and Quality Control Analysts with foundational workplace competencies and technical skillsets like PCR, gel electrophoresis, spectrometry, and more

Where: LabCentral (700 Main Street, Cambridge, 02139)

When:

  • Spring Cohort: Monday, May 13, 2024 - Monday, June 3, 2024 (most days start around 8:30am and end around 5pm)

About LabCentral

Founded in 2013, in the heart of Kendall Square, Cambridge’s biotech innovation hub, LabCentral is a network of shared laboratory spaces and scientific communities. Designed as a launchpad for high-potential life-sciences and biotech start-ups, LabCentral provides the resources early-stage companies need to grow and thrive. LabCentral delivers first-class facility and operational support, skilled laboratory personnel, and an expansive events program designed to add value to the community and promote connectivity‒ as well as the other critical services and support that early-stage companies need to begin start-up operations. A private, nonprofit institution, LabCentral offers fully permitted laboratory and office space for as many as ~1,000 scientists and entrepreneurs comprising roughly 125 companies across Cambridge and Allston.

To date, LabCentral resident and alumni companies have raised a total of $17B in funding. In 2021, LabCentral’s network of companies alone secured 15% of all early-stage financing invested into biotech in the United States.

About LabCentral Ignite

LabCentral launched LabCentral Ignite in January 2021 as a first-and-only-of-its-kind platform focused solely on addressing systemic racial, gender and other underrepresentation in talent across the life sciences and the biotech industry – from labs to leadership, and from the STEM student pipeline to the entrepreneurs advancing life-changing innovations.

Through a range of equity-driven programs, a growing member network of industry, startups, higher ed, VCs and nonprofits, and a budding consortium of Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), Ignite is creating momentum to connect Black, Latinx, women, first-generation college and other underrepresented students and innovators to academic, technical skills-building, assessment, mentoring, job placement and board and leadership preparation opportunities that fuel biotech diversity and inclusively transform careers.
