Bioprocess Development Associate 1

The Pilot Plant team is seeking a BioProcess Development Associate 1 to support the development and pilot-scale production efforts in our pilot plant. The successful candidate will work closely with members of the pilot plant and process development teams who are responsible for fermentation, downstream recovery and purification.

 

Responsibilities:

• Adhere to all facility safety procedures and policies
• Basic operations and maintenance of fermentation and separations equipment
• Monitor processes and identify deviations and/or opportunities for improvement
• Troubleshoot processes and provide technical feedback as needed
• Provide technical support for technology transfer from the lab to the pilot plant and possibly manufacturing
• Provide leadership for pilot plant operations for one or more projects
• Sample processes and prepare them for routine analysis
• Enter data into various web applications and databases for analysis
• Proficient in basic lab techniques, procedures, and assays
• Clean (CIP) and set-up process equipment such as fermenters, portable tanks, continuous centrifuges, homogenizers, and filters
• Operation of centrifuge, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) and chromatography systems
• Communicate well within a team framework, effectively prioritize work, and work efficiently

Basic Requirements:

• BA/BS in scientific discipline or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of related experience in Fermentation and/or Separation processes
• Experience with aseptic and sterilization operations and experience with laminar flow hoods
• Experience with Centrifugation, TFF and chromatography operations
• Experience writing, revising and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for routine work and receive instructions for new processes
• Work Monday thru Friday with occasional weekend and overtime duties

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand up to 6 hours per day while monitoring operations and performing tasks
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and safely move portable tanks ranging in size from 10L to 1000L

The hourly pay range for this non-exempt role is $30.53 to $41.11. Hourly rate offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate's skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
