Purpose of the Role
The BIM/VDC Application Specialist is responsible for supporting the project teams, and entire company to ensure consistent implementation and use of BIM/VDC processes and software.
Functions / Duties
- Initiate models for each project and prepare for operations use.
- Understanding of basic construction operations (i.e. means and methods) used in the field.
- Assist with identifying design change challenges and coordination of changes.
- Work as part of a Saunders Integrated technologies team to support project teams to achieve consistent results.
- Perform daily model management, administration and maintenance.
- Over the shoulder training, support, developing and shadowing project teams.
- Building 3D intelligent (information-rich) models utilizing the Autodesk Design Suite Premium product (Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks Manage).
- Utilize point clouds and other field measurements to develop data-rich models of existing conditions.
- Create models, renderings, and animations to illustrate project approach and demonstrate BIM capabilities during pursuits.
- Content creation and development such as parametric, nested and formula families and standards.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a formalized, company-wide BIM/VDC Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Support the BIM/VDC Manager for scheduling and organizing company BIM/VDC training - including Introduction to BIM
- Provide BIM/VDC software jobsite training, as required
- Assist with organization of BIM/VDC content on SIMS
- Assist/ Run weekly coordination meetings
- Assist with site logistics and project proposals
- Meet on a regular basis with BIM/VDC Manager
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Revit software applications (how to create 'Families' and what objects are used to model certain items, etc.) and ability to create templates to be used for internal modeling purposes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Autodesk Navisworks Manage application and how to use it for coordination of BIM models for conflict/clash detection.
- General knowledge of basic estimating practices to be used in quantity takeoff support for project pursuits.
- Knowledge of the Assemble software and how it is used for model management.
- Familial with laser scan workflow
- Minimum 3-5 years of AEC project experience

Physical Demands
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:
- Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
- Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
- Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
- Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
- Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
- Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
