Job Overview
The Benefits Specialist plays a crucial role in efficiently administering all benefits and retirement programs, ensuring our employees receive the best support and guidance regarding their benefits, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This position is responsible for managing a wide range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the wellness program and our 401(k) plan.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS system to provide vendors with precise eligibility information.
  • Assist in conducting new-hire orientations to educate employees about available benefits.
  • Perform thorough quality checks of benefits-related data to ensure data integrity.
  • Assist employees with benefits claim issues, plan changes, and inquiries.
  • Distribute all benefits enrollment materials and determine eligibility for employees.
  • Enroll employees with carriers and process life status changes accurately.
  • Respond promptly to benefits inquiries from managers and employees, addressing questions on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and general inquiries.
  • Process and administer all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork, including medical, personal, disability, and FMLA.
  • Interpret FMLA and ADA implications effectively as they relate to leaves of absences and disabilities.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees regarding enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.
  • Manage the open enrollment process, ensuring employees have a smooth and informed experience.
  • Facilitate open enrollment meetings and annual health fairs.
  • Promote company wellness program and engagement initiatives

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources or a related field. Equivalent experience and/or other relevant training/certifications may be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and relevant laws and regulations, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration.

Physical Demands: Typical 9-hour day to include walking, squatting, and lifting. To perform the duties of this job the employee must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Heavy lifting of 50lbs or more may be required.
