Job description

Norton Children's Pediatric Protection Specialists, affiliated with University of Louisville School of Medicine, is seeking multipleBC/BE Child Abuse Pediatricians to join our program. Our team of 14 professionals currently includes a Child Abuse Pediatrician, 4 nurse practitioners, 6 clinical forensic nurses, a social worker, a program manager, a clinic coordinator, and a fellowship coordinator. We evaluate children from across Kentucky and Southern Indiana with concerns of child maltreatment.

Our team evaluates children at Norton Children’s Hospital, a free-standing tertiary/quaternary care facility, and we perform case reviews for children who are not seen in person. We are opening a new outpatient clinic in April 2024 as part of our newly established Norton Children’s Center for Safe & Healthy Kids. Our Child Abuse Pediatrician(s) works in tandem with a nurse or nurse practitioner on cases, with responsibility for evaluation, case management, report writing, and court testimony when needed. We embrace diversity and social justice in all we do. Our culture is warm, inclusive, friendly, determined, and practical. Our team works closely together to best serve the needs of our patients, who are always our top priority. We also have an ACGME-accredited Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship Program, which is currently “on hold” until we can hire a second full-time Child Abuse Pediatrician.

About the Position

  • Our team is unique in our use of clinical forensic nurses as physician-extenders; nurses and nurse practitioners take first call and collaborate with the on-call physician for every patient
  • As an academic Child Abuse Pediatrician and full time faculty member of the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics, there is robust support for clinical research, academic pursuits, teaching, and advocacy from the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics, throughout the medical school, and in the community
  • Abundant opportunities for community engagement and policy/prevention work and engagement with students, residents, fellows and community providers and partners
  • Opportunities to sit on/lead multiple state and local boards and teams
  • Ideal candidate is friendly, enthusiastic, a great team player, an excellent communicator, and dedicated to doing the right thing for our patients
  • Our team was recently awarded $6 million from the Commonwealth of Kentucky to help fund the Norton Children’s Center for Safe & Healthy Kids. We’re growing!

Requirements for the position

  • Medical degree/diploma
  • Board certified/board eligible for both general pediatrics and Child Abuse pediatrics
  • Kentucky medical license or license eligible
