This Role Offers the Following Work Appropriately Strategy - Hybrid

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum.

The Role - As a Senior Buyer for Purchased Battery cells, you will lead commercial relationships with critical suppliers on a commodity that requires significant capital investment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams on new and innovative breakthrough technologies sourcing critical cells for the battery system as part of vehicle, home energy, and next generation non-automotive utilities that expand the breadth in which our customers interface and experience our products . This significant impact requires actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing, negotiations, global, regional material budget execution, and communication with the top tier suppliers and partners. The successful Senior Buyer at General Motors will develop understanding of the political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors that impact our battery cell commodity. You will be a part of a team that drives discipline and focus to ensure excellence in stakeholder and customer relationships.
You will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. Responsible for actively participating in development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers or internal stakeholders. Work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and a high level of independent judgment.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally, both internally and externally and build relationships

  • Partner with Program Managers to represent purchasing and communicate program requirements/vehicle line overview.

  • Experience with commodities (raw material, metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, electronics, etc.)

  • Experience handling commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance

  • Proven competence in negotiating skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be very complex

  • Driving forward key challenges and decisions for leadership review and action

  • Developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, balance multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering or other related areas

  • 5+ years relevant purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, or product development experience

  • Ability to travel at least 10% of time, including international travel

  • Developing Contracts / Agreements

  • Project Execution and Planning Tools (Gantt charts)

  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams

  • Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment

  • Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications)

  • MBA, or advanced degree

  • Automotive industry experience

  • Knowledge of procurement software (GDIMPS, SAP)

  • Knowledge of materials management

  • Capable of interpreting market data

  • Proven knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes

  • Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed

  • Engineering Process Development
