JOB SUMMARY
Paideia is a PK-12 college preparatory school in the Druid Hills area of Atlanta. Students are engaged at every grade level in music instruction. Paideia's music faculty includes music educators as well as performing artists, and the music program is valued for its diversity and excellence.
This full-time position includes collaboratively leading the instrumental music program across 3 divisions of the school: the elementary, the junior high, and high school. Students start band beginning in the 5th grade.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The band director team teaches beginning elementary bands, junior high band, high school concert band, and is the lead director of the high school jazz ensemble. Maintaining and building an ever changing library of music based on the needs of the program, overseeing repairing instruments, and attending after school, evening, and weekend rehearsals and performances are also part of the responsibilities. Google classroom is utilized for posting assignments and contacting students and parents and maintaining an active email list of parents and students is expected. Other job requirements include weekly faculty meetings, serving on committees, carpool duty, chaperoning field trips, collaborating with other members of the music department, as well as other disciplines, and participating as a full member of the school community.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Paideia is looking for a dynamic educator and performer to join our student-centered learning community. The position requires flexibility and confidence to design and teach music curricula across all levels of instrument music (grades 5-12) to students who range from beginning to advanced in all grades. Ensembles are made up of disparate levels of players throughout the grades.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in music. A masters degree is preferred however not required. Applicants should have at least 3-5 years of teaching experience. The ideal candidate would have expertise in brass and percussion, and a knowledge of arranging and transcribing music and specific experience in directing high school bands.
