Job description

Job Title: Baler / Shredder Operator
Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: VP of Manufacturing
FSLA status: Non-exempt
Date: January 11, 2021 revision
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collect all waste carts from Office areas, Web Pressroom, Digital Print areas (Canons, Ricohs, Commercial Ricohs), Flat cutter, and Bindery areas on a regular basis during the day.
• Shred and bale all paper waste collected each area daily.
• Collect all partial “butt” rolls from the Web Pressroom daily and strip off all paper into the shredder/baler. Place empty cores in the waste dumpster.
• Maintain a clean and orderly Baler Room at all times to ensure a safe environment.
• Move completed bales into position in the bale storage area, using three bales high as a standard height.
• Maintain Baler and blower fans by using compressed air to remove waste paper and dust.
• Empty dust collection bags weekly and dispose of contents.
• Preform light preventative maintenance and clean out on the Baler and the Shredder.
• Inform management of any mechanical or maintenance issues.
• Make sure the Shredder is turned off when not in use to prevent fire hazard.
• Operate a forklift and electric or manual pallet jack as needed.
Non-essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employees in this position may be asked to perform other duties as assigned within the department or other areas of production. Conditions which may make this necessary include, but are not limited to, machine down time, workflow/project deadlines, special projects, illness of coworkers or any special situation as determined by the management team within the department.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 12 months of related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance is a plus.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
