Overview:
We are seeking a Backup and Archive System Administrator who will focus on backups and archiving the Enterprise footprint at ORNL. This position resides in the Digital Hosting Services in the Enterprise Operations Division in the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for workstation and server backup administration.
- Install and configure backup software for infrastructure and clients.
- Monitor backup performance and issues.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues with system administrators, engineers, and vendors.
- Document processes including work instructions and maintain a current knowledgebase.
- Enhance monitoring on backup infrastructure to enable self-healing.
- Engage with engineers to automate workflows.

Basic Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in Information Systems, or a related technical field of study and 5 or more years of relevant experience. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of backup architecture and operations.
- Basic understanding of network communication and demonstrated troubleshooting techniques.
- Basic understanding of virtualization environments and operations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for user support and ability to work well with peer system administrators.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages such as Python or PowerShell. Able to utilize source code repositories for storage and script revisions.
- Familiarity with CommVault or related Backup and Archive software.
- Familiarity with virtual machine theory or experience with VMware.
- Enterprise backup installation, configuration, and management experience.
- Previous experience working in a government, scientific, or other highly technical environment.
- Experience in an environment requiring change control processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform job tasks while considering cyber security risk of those tasks, and consulting with security professionals when necessary.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

- Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- L Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
