Summary
The Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program Coordinator, under the direction of the AYA Oncology Program Medical Directors and Rogel Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Services, coordinates the AYA program as detailed below.
AYA Oncology patients (ages 15-39) are a population with unique medical and psychosocial needs. The UM Health AYA Oncology Program aims to address these needs through dedicated clinical and research initiatives. This position represents an opportunity to be involved with the ongoing development and implementation of a program that improves the cancer care and experience of the AYA population served at UM Health.

Responsibilities*
The Program Coordinator will serve as the primary point person for this program. Coordination of the UM Health AYA Oncology Program includes, but is not limited to, the following programmatic and clinical responsibilities:
The Program Coordinator will serve as the primary point person for this program. Coordination of the UM Health AYA Oncology Program includes, but is not limited to, the following programmatic and clinical responsibilities:
Programmatic
  • Develop and implement program goals and objectives
  • Create and support quality improvement initiatives specific to the AYA patient population
  • Research and identify standards of care and new trends in AYA oncology, collaborate with Program leadership to establish and modify program direction accordingly
  • Identify fundraising and development opportunities. Seek funds for program operations from private and public sources.
  • Routinely assess productivity and quality of the AYA program.
  • Represent the program in community service activities.
  • Work to continually integrate DEI-based practices to bring forth meaningful improvements in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Represent AYA Oncology on UM Health committees
  • Support and strengthen the AYA Patient and Family Advisory Councils
  • Participate in PFSS special events for patients and families for Annual Memorial, Life Images Photo shoot for Patients and Families, Annual Memorial to represent AYA population
  • Collaboration with PFSS staff members to design, facilitate virtual education offerings for AYA and young adults as parents based on needs assessment of unmet needs for population
  • Conduct outreach to regional cancer centers participation in legacy training to enhance end of like support when needed

Clinical
  • Assist with standardizing procedures for identifying, tracking and managing AYA patients served at Michigan Health
  • Maintain comprehensive menu of AYA support services and serve as key resource for program information and AYA related activities
  • Intake new referrals to AYA Program (connect with patients, connect them with program resources)
  • Follow up at regular intervals with AYAs enrolled in the program

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's prepared in Social Work, Nursing, Public Health Child Life, Therapeutic
  • Recreation or other Allied Health degree with appropriate certifications/licensure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Function independently with strong work history of collaboration and team process
  • Have a strong sense of patient/provider boundaries, ethical code, and respect for HIPAA
  • Experience/comfortability working with individuals with cancer, chronic illness, or at end of life
  • Process skills needed to support individual mental and emotional health
  • Experience/willingness to learn required technological programs such as MiChart, Zoom, doximity/slack, teams, dropbox, etc.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Nursing or Public Health, Child Life, Therapeutic Recreation with appropriate certifications and licensure
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a health care setting
  • Experience in the medical setting with adolescents and young adults
  • Program or Agency experience
  • Experience with program development and facilitation in both group and individual interactions

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
