Berry Corporation (bry) has an opening at our Fellows, California, office for an Automation Technician who will work on-site and under direct supervision to support field operations with the installation, replacement, simulation and calibration of typical process instruments such at pressure, temperature, level, interface transmitters and flow meters. The Automation Technician will be responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning turnkey automation solutions, troubleshooting, servicing, and debugging software and hardware utilized in automated controls systems. Key Accountabilities
- Develops PLC and HMI applications to meet operational specifications.
- Provides design guidelines, and general and detailed software design specifications to other software engineers.
- Effectively assess and communicate project risks.
- Delivers risk mitigation plans.
- Suggests new and innovative approaches to solving problems.
- Develops PLC and HMI applications to meet specifications.
- Loop checks and function testing to ensure the proper functioning of equipment.
- Programs and commissions headers and facilities.
- Acts as 1st level troubleshooting support of automation, SCADA, and communication issues, as well as 1st level, call out support.
- Supervise technicians during control system build/modifications.
- Mentor and train team members and associates.
- Complies with all the Company’s Safety and Environmental policies, practices, and programs. Takes corrective action within training limitations. Escalates as necessary.
- Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance HSE knowledge, safety standards, and improve job performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- BS in Computer Science or Automation preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Up to 5+ years of prior experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Critical:
- Ability to write PLC logic using ladder logic, structured text, or function block.
- Ability to read and follow technical documentation, including wiring diagrams and system schematics.
- Ability to follow all safety procedures while working independently.
Required:
- Working knowledge of industrial computers, PLC’s and process communications.
- Basic knowledge of oil and gas production and operation.
- Experience with basic hand tools, electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and legally as well as drive to remote locations to complete job tasks.
Desired:
- Experience with electrical, electronic automation processes, and PLC systems.
- Ability to accept responsibility and accountability with a positive attitude.
- Ability to perform mathematical functions.
- Basic computer knowledge (such as Microsoft applications) and understanding.
- Experience with working with Allen Bradley is required.
Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this position in California is between $30.00 per hour and $37.50 per hour. Please note that the hourly rate information is a general guideline, and that the hourly rate will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation (“Berry”) will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considers when extending an offer. This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus, excellent benefits including full health benefits, 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting, tuition reimbursement, 9/80 flex schedules, and generous paid time off.
