Industrial Automation Technician Job Responsibilities:
- Provide automation engineering in the specification, design, development, installation, commissioning, and validation of process control systems for capital projects of significant scope and complexity.
- Provide site operational support for troubleshooting, optimization, incident investigation, and root cause analysis of instrumentation and control systems and related process issues.
- Develop process control applications utilizing PLC, HMI, and SCADA.
- Develop electrical and instrumentation specifications to ensure proper installation of automated systems, and documented Automation Standards to ensure consistent implementation of control system Instrumentation, networking, and programming across all production lines and processes.
- Drive plant control system upgrades.
- Provide training of site personnel regarding installation and maintenance of hardware, configuration of software, and start-up of automation systems, including documentation of the process control systems to aid the plant in their training of additional personnel.
- Make recommendations on upgrades of existing electrical, controls and mechanical components /equipment as new technology dictates and identify strengths and weaknesses of current equipment.
- Provide on-site programming for plant automation systems, including process control systems and development of standard practices to improve plant productivity and consistency.
- Perform programming, design, installation and lifecycle management of manufacturing process controls, automation, and field instrumentation technologies.
Industrial Automation Technician Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of Instrumentation/Controls experience, OR
Associate degree and 5 years of Automation experience preferred - Two of the following, totaling (3) years of job experience in:
- Troubleshooting of industrial instrumentation and controls using electrical test instrumentation and tools.
- Process Control Systems integration with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
- Design of control system architectures, and administration of control computers, networks, and communications.
- Implementing advance control strategies for process optimization.
- Reading and Producing Control System Documentation: electrical one-line drawings, cable schedules, functional descriptions, I/O lists, control schemes, electrical and maintenance schematics/blueprints etc.
- Experience programming AB PLC 5/500/5000
- Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to manage projects for implementing changes and improvements.
- Detail Oriented: Capable of carrying out a given task with all details necessary to get the task done well
- Team Player: Works well as a member of a group
- Employee is responsible for their own work and must exercise care and compliance of all established safety procedures.
- Employee must adhere to company safety policies (safety shoes, glasses, etc.).
- May be required to work in somewhat disagreeable working conditions (dust, noise, etc.).
- Ability to operate safely in a manufacturing environment; this may include, but is not limited to potentially lifting up to 20 lbs., standing for extended periods of time, bending, crouching, stooping, rotating, climbing stairs, or any combination of the previous, etc.
