Automation Technician Job Description
General Purpose:
Applies strong, proven, practical experience with PLCs, HMIs, servomotors, actuators, robotics and
sensors to improve automated production processes, enhance human interaction, reduce errors and
improve safety. Performs hands on electrical, mechanical and automation troubleshooting, making
adjustments to processes and/or machinery. Optimizes equipment/manufacturing processes to provide
sustainable gains in product quality, process yield, consistency, productivity, efficiency and safety.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Troubleshoots Electrical, PLC and other industrial automation in a manufacturing environment.
• Designs, installs, Programs and commissions small to medium size Automation control systems.
• Designs, builds and wires all control panels.
• Trains and supports operators and Maintenance team members on an ongoing basis on the
understanding of Automation and troubleshooting.
• Monitors and reacts in a timely manner to routine demand maintenance requirements
• Participates in routine Preventive/Predictive Maintenance of Electrical and Automation
Equipment
• Utilizes a variety of mechanical and electrical test equipment
• Analyzes machine downtime and reacts accordingly to improve machine efficiency
• Ensures equipment optimizations within the production process
• Maintains All PLC Program files and documentation
• Assists in all electrical work around the plant
• Stays up to date on all PLC, programing and electrical code developments
REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates degree in applied technology, automation technology, or equivalent experience in an
automated manufacturing environment
• Strong math, computer and electronics skills; ability to work with hand tools and various
instruments
• Controls panel building and wiring
• Allen Bradley PLC experience
• Electrical wiring
• Mechanically inclined
• Technology and automation minded, with a thorough understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics,
AC motors, servo motors, electricity, gearboxes, and tools. Strong practical experience with
troubleshooting and programming PLCs, automation, robotics, servo motors and sensors.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests
• Capable of working all hours/shifts as needed
