Job description

Audit Business Support (ABS) is searching for a talented individual to join our team. Under the direction of the Administrator I and the Team Leads, the incumbent performs various analytical tasks in support of the Audit and Legal Divisions. The incumbent will perform complex account adjustments and review audit closing processes completed by Tax Program Technicians and Staff Services Analaysts for accuracy, consistency, and compliance. Workloads the incumbent is responsible for processing and reviewing, such as but not limited to: workloads related to interest, timely filing, payments in non-billable status, notice processing, and Taxpayer Information (TI) & Business Entities Tax System (BETS) transactions, over $100K, mixed files, and Notice of Proposed Assessment (NPAs). Incumbent will work with systems such as Case Management, Taxpayer Folder, Taxpayer Information, Business Entities Tax System and Professional Audit Support System (PASS) to analyze accounts for completeness and accuracy. The Associate Operations Specialist is responsible for providing feedback, mentorship, guidance, and training on audit cases and workloads. The Associate Operations Specialist is an ABS subject matter expert, who will provide technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders and provide technical expertise for the success of EDR.
Position may be extended to up to 24 months or become permanent.

Working Conditions
This position is eligible for remote-working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. Franchise Tax Board has a minimum in-office requirement of two days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal and State tax laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of Professional Audit Support System (PASS), Case Management (CM), Taxpayer Folder (TPF), Return Analysis (RA), and Manual of Audit Procedures (MAP)
  • Strong working knowledge of Taxpayer Information (TI) (with the ability to do transactions)
  • Strong working knowledge of creating Personal Income Tax (PIT) Interest Computations
  • Strong working knowledge of Business Entities Taxpayer System (BETS) (with the ability to do transactions)
  • Strong working knowledge of creating Business Entities (BE) Interest Computations, MDS and Interest Netting
  • Experience with Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Power Point, Etc.
