Terrific opportunity for an Attorney with a premier boutique law firm in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood. An Estate Planning Attorney is focused on life, estate, and business planning, and seeks to expand our team primarily in the post-mortem settlement area which includes probate and trust settlement work to better serve our clients and continue to grow our practice.Salary: Commensurate with experience. May become eligible for profit sharing and cash balance plans as well as referral fees for uniquely generated business.
Position Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate writes well and is thoughtful, diligent, and highly motivated. This position provides an opportunity to work collaboratively, both internally with colleagues as well as with clients and other professional advisors, and to participate meaningfully in the oversight of client relationships.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
- Manage Estate Administrations, including probate and trust settlements;
- Assist with managing ongoing trust administration including communication with beneficiaries and other professional advisors;
- Prepare estate and gift tax returns; manage/review preparation of trust and probate income tax returns on form 1041; assist with preparation/review of probate and trust accountings;
- Assist with formation and maintenance of charitable entities including private foundations;
- Assist on a more limited basis with certain corporate and real estate transactions;
- Perform traditional attorney duties including legal research and writing, producing various documents, correspondence, and memos as necessary;
- Assist with Firm marketing endeavors by creating/editing presentations for professional groups, crafting certain marketing materials, and monitoring certain social media presence; and
- Ability and desire to build relationships, become involved with professional organizations, and develop and retain new clients.
- At least one year of experience in estate planning and estate administration preferred, including at least a basic/foundational knowledge of estate and gift taxation. A strong interest in the subject matter and the desire to learn is mandatory.
Job Requirements:
Preference for candidates with an LL.M. in taxation as well as experience managing estate settlement matters, including probate administrations. Experience before the probate and family court also will be helpful. The ability to maintain confidentiality, be discrete about sensitive client information, and possess the highest integrity is fundamental to this position. Must be licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and in good standing; CORI check required. Strong academic credentials preferred. Candidates with experience drafting estate documents and/or preparing estate and gift tax returns will be given preference. Job is based in Boston. Although some remote work will be accommodated once proficient with our systems, time in the office is essential to form strong collaborative relationships with the team.

General computer and technological literacy, with fluency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and the Windows platform is required. The Firm also uses a web-based client/contact management and calendaring software (Clio), a HotDocs based estate planning software, and a tax preparation software. The ability to quickly develop a functional knowledge of new software platforms is imperative.
