Job Description
Performs paraprofessional work assisting with planning, organizing, supervising athletic programs, assists with daily operations of the recreation center including maintenance tasks. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Athletic Coordinator and Recreation Facility Manager. Assists with supervision exercised over part-time personnel. Work includes weeknight and weekend hours.
Essential Duties of the Position
The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.
- Assists with the planning, organization, and facilitation of various athletic programs including youth and adult programs.
- Performs safety checks on facilities and equipment before setting up for various programs; restores facilities and equipment after programs are completed, as needed.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and staff.
- Assist in creating budget for current and new programming; document expenditures; and prepare programing reports and surveys.
- Assist in the marketing of programs and events.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and staff.
- Assists in supervising and training part-time staff; participates in recruitment and selection process; recommends appropriate candidates for hire; recommends disciplinary and termination actions.
- Maintain contracts and other documentation for vendors.
- Occasionally drive town bus/van for programming needs.
- Assist in front desk recreation center operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
General knowledge of the various athletic programs available in the community; some knowledge of ball field maintenance techniques and practices; ability to schedule and coordinate an athletic program; ability to provide working leadership to a group of program participants; skill in the use of instruments, tools or other equipment used in recreation facility and field maintenance activities; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, activity participants and the general public.
Associate's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field with 1 to 2 years of experience in organized athletic program administration.
Must possess or obtain valid North Carolina driver's license. Must possess or obtain first aid and CPR certifications.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; worker is frequently speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires distance vision, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. Recreation Center front desk, light traffic, programs in facility).
