Hourly Rate: $17.75 - $18.28
Assigned Shifts Vary: Evenings 6:00pm - 10:00 pm and
Weekends 8:00am - 3:00pm
Position responsible for organizing, leading and instructing participants of all ages in skill development of a variety of sporting activities. Incumbent leads and provides on-site supervision of athletic programs, tournaments, leagues, events and maintains responsibility for equipment and records. Programs take place weekday evenings and weekends, both indoors and outdoors.
- Supervises diverse age groups in a variety of indoor and outdoor athletic activities.
- Teaches skill development for a specific sport activity, maintains order and discipline, issues and collects equipment.
- Manages and leads leagues, games and programs, sets up equipment and prepares supplies.
- Communicates with the public and provides support to participants and parents.
- Observes necessary precautions to secure the safety of activity participants and spectators.
- Maintains activity and attendance records and occasionally prepares reports such as accident reports.
- Provides on-site supervision of volunteers and part-time staff, as assigned.
- Provides feedback to supervisors concerning field/gym safety and work orders.
- Renders first aid in case of minor injury.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, orientations, department/city trainings and evaluation sessions.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Group recreational supervision and the rules and regulations governing various competitive games and other athletic activities.
SKILL IN:
- Interacting positively with the public.
- Communicating instructions effectively to individuals and groups.
- Organizing and instructing athletic programs.
- Conflict management and defusing confrontational situations.
- Report writing and record keeping.
- Exercising initiative and good judgment.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC) .
- One (1) year of experience in recreation, physical education, coaching, or a related field.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED - with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within the first six months of employment.
- Experience supervising/coordinating youth/adult athletic leagues, games, or sporting activities.
- Consistently available to work between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday.
- Consistently available to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
- Know the rules to baseball, softball, soccer, pickleball or kickball.
- Experience working athletic programs.
- Experience planning small social gatherings for athletic participants.
- Willing to work both indoors and outdoors.
- Experience organizing and teaching skill development for a specific sport activity.
