ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH 

 

California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator IV position.

The Position: Reporting to the provost and Vice President for academic affairs, the Associate Vice President for Research supervises the Office of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities (ORSCA), serves as the institutional officer for the Institutional Review Board-Human Subjects (IRB) and the Institution Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and collaborates closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects in University Auxiliary Services (UAS), the University Foundation, and University Advancement. Working collaboratively with deans and faculty, the AVPR is responsible for providing leadership for building funding capacity and support for Research, scholarship, and creative activities appropriate to the mission of the University. The AVPR oversees the development of external and internal grant and contracts, ensures integrity of administration and legal compliance, and advocates for efficient pre- and post-award processes for college deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff (as pre- and post- award are housed in UAS). The AVPR actively engages in ongoing efforts with other units on campus to develop and improve processes, practices, procedures, and communication related to securing and managing grant and foundation funded research and other forms of creative scholarship.

Required Qualifications & Experience: The incumbent must have an earned doctorate and a record of recognized research, scholarship, and teaching accomplishments sufficient to merit appointment as a full professor in a department on campus. The incumbent will need to have a proven record of leadership experience within a campus research enterprise and an interest and deep commitment to working and communicating effectively in a highly diverse, multicultural/multiethnic environment. The incumbent must have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and staff across the University as well as an established record of increasing externally funded research at the department, college, or university level. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position.

 

California State University, Los Angeles, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. As such, the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California.

 

As of January 1, 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Desired Qualifications: A proven record of promoting research and research partnerships. Experience with creating and implementing effective research programs that enhance the quality of learning for a diverse student body; interfacing with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of a comprehensive state university; interfacing with units on a campus including Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management, and General Council; in a research enterprise where both pre- award and post- award are housed in an auxiliary organization; and working in a unionized environment.

 

CompensationThe salary range for this Associate Vice President role is $175,000 - $200,000. The final hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Appointment:  The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University.  All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
