Job Description
Our partner is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for a location in Hicksville, NY. This specialized role involves vehicle and equipment mechanical design, engineering theory, and technical studies, requiring collaboration with internal teams, external stakeholders, and leading technical projects.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Utility Equipment Safety Standards, laws, and regulations, including State DOT, ANSI, SAE, FMVSS, and fleet specifications.
- Proficiently diagnose and repair fleet vehicles and equipment, translating technical expertise for internal and external clients.
- Conduct field analysis of equipment defects and accident investigations.
- Coordinate safety-related recalls and service bulletins across multiple fleet repair facilities.
- Lead Fleet Environmental and Governmental compliance efforts.
- Research new vehicle technology (EV, hybrids, hydrogen, fuel cell) to meet emission requirements.
- Develop and analyze new business initiatives supporting client goals and standardize specifications.
- Lead vehicle and equipment committee teams in developing fleet standards, guidelines, and specifications.
- Liaise with client teams to identify issues and opportunities for improving vehicle specifications.
- Oversee approximately $10 million annual vehicle and equipment acquisition.
- Act as the primary contact with key personnel from vehicle and equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
- Monitor design/manufacturer vendor performance and ensure expectations are met.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- 0-2 years of experience in a capacity allowing for direct experience with various vehicles and commercial equipment associated with electric utility construction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with interdepartmental interfaces to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships.
- Preferred/Desired Skills: Advanced degree, specification writing, electrical load flow analysis, weight and load study experience, NYS PE License, knowledge of AutoCAD.
