Duties:
- The Associate Editor is responsible for reviewing and editing math adaptive practice for grades 3 to 8 – including questions, feedback and hints, numbers and equations in LaTeX, illustration specifications, and metadata – as directed by an editorial manager. The Associate Editor works with vendors, freelancers, and staff to improve our adaptive practice user experience and items within the established timelines and budgets.
- This position requires highly organized, independent, flexible, creative, technology-savvy, and collaborative work, through an Agile process that includes daily short meetings with the scrum team.
- The Associate Editor will use an Excel tracking spreadsheet, Box folders, and Jira board tickets to perform and track progress on tasks.
- The Associate Editor review and edit engaging and instructionally sound content and then accurately place it in the content management system per specifications.
- The Associate Editor will effectively communicate any blockers as soon as possible and produce weekly progress reports for the editorial manager and the product management team.
Skills:
- Knowledge of math curriculum, instruction, practice, assessment, and correlations to standards for grades 3-8, including reading literature and informational texts, language (grammar, word choice), and writing.
- Writing and editing short, engaging fiction and nonfiction passages; practice questions associated with these passages; and feedback and hints associated with skills and concepts.
- Accurate placement of all text and images in a content management system, including numbers and equations in LaTeX, and conducting iterative quality assurance to ensure functionality and quality.
- Organization and communication skills, working collaboratively on a team of diverse skills and responsibilities, taking strong initiative to identify and correct problems, resolve blockers, and track work in Excel, Box, and Jira, in a collaborative team-focused manner.
Education and Experience:
- Four-year degree in Math, a field with applied math, or Education with math credential
- Three or more years of digital content development experience, including understanding of content management systems, Excel, and digital file management (e.g., Box)
- Demonstrated understanding of math state and Common Core standards; content equity, diversity, and inclusion (CEID); producing LaTeX math content; and proofing procedures
- Experience on a digital product team in a company setting, including Agile and Scrum project management, iterative development, and regular online meetings
- Physical requirements include likely stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing) with computer work
- Strongest candidates will also have:
- Classroom math, applied math, or science teaching experience in grades 3-8
- Interest and experience with adaptive digital practice
- Interest and experience in data management problem identification and solute
