The Director of Graduate Student Support is a leader in Graduate Affairs, responsible for developing and maintaining University-wide partnerships, overseeing strategic projects and communications, Master's and professional student resources, and the GRADUATE STUDENT appeals process in the Office of the Provost. The Director will be an experienced student affairs leader well-versed in current trends of higher education, able to identify and respond to emerging needs in graduate education through developing programs, collaborative projects, and contributing to University policy development.

1. Student Services Liaison and Partnerships (25%):

The Director will take a leading role in developing and sustaining close collaborative relationships with the following offices: BU Virtual, University Housing and Auxiliary Services, the Dean of Students, Student Health Services, Student Wellbeing, the Educational Resource Center, the Center for Career Development, Alumni and Development, Office of the University Registrar, Student Information Systems, and International Students and Scholars Office. The Director will also oversee collaboration across Graduate Affairs to create support services and resources that affect all GRADUATE STUDENTs (Master's, professional, and PhD). This may involve service on university-wide working groups and committees to ensure the interests OF GRADUATE STUDENTs and the needs OF GRADUATE and professional programs are reflected in discussions.

2. Professional and Master's Student Support and Resources (20%):

Given a substantial graduate and professional student population and decentralized and uneven support for these students, the Director will be responsible for undertaking the creation and enhancement of various STUDENT SUPPORT initiatives. This includes, for example, creating educational opportunities and web-based orientation modules (e.g. navigating health insurance).

3. Communication (20%):

The Director will oversee and conceptualize strategic communication efforts in Graduate Affairs, including re-visioning and regular updating of the Graduate Education website, developing a communications strategy for student engagement and leading efforts to communicate with graduate and professional students, including through a fall welcome letter and editorial oversight of the Doctoral Digest. The director may coordinate a re-envisioned Graduate Student Advisory Board.

4. Student Appeals (10%):

The Director will oversee the student appeals process in areas including academic misconduct, Title IX, and access accommodation. The director will draft responses and make recommendations to the Associate Provost.

5. Technology and Systems (10%):

Work in collaboration with the Graduate Enrollment team, IS&T, and ENSA to support and improve the GRADUATE STUDENT experience across various university-wide systems, including the Student Information System (SIS).

6. Special Projects (15%):

As assigned and needed by the Associate Provost of Graduate Affairs, the Director will undertake complex projects that require autonomous work and high-level research and critical thinking skills.

Required Skills

A cover letter is required for consideration.

    Master's Degree with 3-5 years of experience in higher education administration requiredExperience working with GRADUATE STUDENTs and on graduate education issues preferred. Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills required.
