Job Description

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is looking for an enthusiastic communications professional who can contribute to developing and implementing social media strategies that boost the effectiveness of our policy campaigns in low- and middle-income countries, raise the profile of our advocacy partners and showcase success stories. We want someone with a communications or related degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience who is excited about using their skills in a dynamic, growing organization to support our mission: saving lives from solvable public health challenges.

The Associate Director of International Digital Engagement (Associate Director) will serve as a vital member of the International Communications team. Tobacco-Free Kids is a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is fighting for a world free of the death and disease caused by tobacco. We work in low- and middle-income countries – where over 80 percent of the world’s smokers live – to support the adoption and implementation of proven solutions that reduce tobacco use and save lives. We have worked with local partners and allies in low- and middle-income countries to prevent over 35 million premature deaths!

Working primarily with the International Communications team comprised of staff in DC and communications colleagues around the world, the Associate Director will play a critical role in a fast-paced, always-changing program. The Associate Director will have primary responsibility for implementing the global tobacco control program’s new social media strategy, setting up new social media channels and collaborating on existing channels, and working with staff throughout the organization and around the world to set up content streams and calendars.

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Communications and working closely with social media staff in other departments, the Associate Director will:

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:

• Help manage the implementation of the global tobacco control department’s new social media strategy and content plan.

• Help strategize, write, and design digital content to build meaningful engagement among followers and ensure we reach target audiences.

• Collaborate with our grantees’ communications/social media staff to amplify their campaigns and generate content for Tobacco-Free Kids’ channels.

• Create and manage advertising/boosting strategy.

• Set up and oversee best-practice systems for monitoring and acting on engagement metrics and other indicators of social media performance.

• Contribute to high-level digital reporting to leadership, including performance insights from digital ads and social content.

• Stay apprised of and advise on external trends and developments affecting our digital presence.

• With other departments, monitor and coordinate responses to tobacco industry activities in the digital space.

• Help work with in-country teams, teams in Washington, DC, and our programs and colleagues in the field to set up content streams for our social media channels; train these teams and colleagues to plan and consistently provide high-quality content for social media channels.

• Proactively engage with thought leaders and peer organizations online.

• Participate in various internal meetings including digital team meetings, meetings with consultants, and broader communications meetings. Participate in strategic planning for social media around organization-wide events and priorities.

• Contribute to monthly communications calendar.

• Support light graphic design work as needed.

• Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, graphic design utilities.

• Manage vendors including graphic designers and others.

• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant social media experience.

• Excellent writing, editing and project management skills, with emphasis on writing and editing for digital media.

• Excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency with relevant computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Graphic design or video production skills a plus.

WHY JOIN THE CAMPAIGN FOR TOBACCO FREE KIDS?

  • You will be a part of a respected global health advocacy organization that works to create meaningful change through policy changes and save lives in our neighborhoods and in communities worldwide.
  • You’ll receive a generous benefits package including:
  • 100% company-paid health and dental for you; 70-80% contribution to these coverages for your dependents.
  • Paid parental leave benefits (4 weeks paid maternity/paternity leave), in addition to federal and local leave provisions.
  • 403b plan participation (with 9% company contribution)
  • 10 paid company holidays, 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 5 personal days (on an accrual basis each calendar year)

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We believe our programs are strengthened when they are developed and supported by individuals with diverse life experiences, whose understanding of social and cultural issues can help make The Campaign's work more inclusive.
