Role Purpose
This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Regulatory Affairs to provide general legal support within the Regulatory Affairs team. The team is responsible for advising on federal regulatory requirements, and the impact of policy proposals applicable to video programming, including by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Job Duties
- Conduct legal research, as well as draft and update legal memoranda and guidance, on FCC and FTC regulatory requirements governing: NBCUniversal-owned television stations, programming networks, digital platforms, theme parks, and other regulated operations - including content regulation and reporting obligations
- Prepare and present compliance training materials across multiple NBCUniversal legal and business divisions
- Advise partnering legal teams on FCC/FTC content regulations and guidance, including: advertising initiatives, indecency, EAS, children's marketing, and contests
- Provide legal counsel relating to accessibility laws and regulations governing televised and digital video programming, including closed captioning and audio description
- Collaborate with SVP to analyze federal legislative and rulemaking proposals regarding TV & Streaming video programming, including privacy, children's marketing, and artificial intelligence/algorithmic activity
- Provide legal analysis relating to political advertising on broadcast and digital platforms, including federal requirements and content moderation issues (e.g., Sec. 230)
Basic Requirements:
- Law degree
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of D.C. or another State Bar, and register as in-house counsel for D.C.
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience for Associate Counsel, or 4 years of experience for Counsel, at a law firm the FCC/FTC, or in-house at a media/digital content company
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams
Desired Characteristics:
- FCC and/or FTC experience strongly preferred
- Outstanding analytical, communication and organizational skills, including excellent drafting skills
- Sound judgment, strong work ethic, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, priorities, deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs and regulatory environment change
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team of subject-matter experts, supporting businesses across the NBCUniversal portfolio
