This position will be part of a global and driven team of lawyers in the American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) General Counsel's Office (GCO) supporting contracts for small and medium enterprise clients around the world, reporting to a Vice President and Senior Counsel.
This candidate must have commercial law experience as the role will work closely with sales and account management team members. They must also have been in a client facing role as this position works very closely with internal and external partners.
Responsibilities

• Handle Business Contracts. Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a wide range of contracts, primarily commercial agreements. Provide advice and assistance to business leadership on standard and non-standard agreements or business processes. Draft and improve contract templates and advise on interpretation of existing agreements.
• Support Business Development. Support GBT on marketing initiatives and review of marketing materials. Support new product development and business re-engineering initiatives. Support in the submission of RFP responses.
• Driving Efficiency. Proactively finding opportunities to improve and streamline GCO work processes and drive efficiencies.

Skills

• Technical Legal skills. Qualified lawyer with experience gained in a role where the candidate handled a broad range of matters, preferably in a law firm or sophisticated commercial organization. Demonstrable experience in providing business-savvy legal advice is essential. Flexible, creative, ability to handle instructions and ambiguity well. Solid understanding of general principles of law applicable to commercial practice as well as experience in areas of law applicable to commercial agreements and data protection.
• Communication. First class oral and written communication skills, in particular the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly and concisely to non-specialists and advise the business and subject matter experts persuasively and with confidence. Ability to speak languages other than English will be beneficial. Skilled at working across cross functional teams both locally and globally within the company. A team player with a collaborative attitude that can communicate effectively with various internal functions to achieve a common objective.
• Professional poise. Remains calm under pressure and demonstrates an ability to impart discipline and calm to stressful situations. Holds their own in live discussions where differing views are expressed. A persuasive advocate who is not afraid to convey unwelcome messages yet partners with the business to identify practical solutions. Takes personal accountability. Ability to work under time pressure to meet tight deadlines and clients' expectations. Able to work autonomously while demonstrating teamwork.
• An organized self-starter who takes ownership. Takes the initiative to learn independently rather than passively. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, take on new responsibilities and prioritize work in a dynamic, deadline-intensive environment; experience in leading and facilitating change. Highly organized. Can prioritize and manage work with multiple partners. Sees what needs to be done and does it proactively.

Requirements

• The position will be located in one of the following metropolitan areas: New York or Tampa.
• Must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• 4+ years commercial/corporate experience in a national/regional law firm or the legal department of a sophisticated commercial organization.

The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $70,000 to $140,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
