Job Summary

The School of Music invites applications for one tenure-track position beginning August 16, 2024. We are seeking qualified candidates in the field of Music composition or music theory with an aural skills emphasis.
Responsibilities: Teach a combination of undergraduate core music theory/aural skills courses and courses serving undergraduate and graduate composition majors, equaling the equivalent of nine credit hours per semester (a 3-3 load or equivalent combination of courses and individual lessons; this is a typical load assignment in the School of Music); maintain a research or creative scholarship record which exemplifies a high artistic or scholarly level; participate in appropriate service activities.

While offering a comprehensive range of majors-from music composition in traditional, theory, and new media tracks, to music education, therapy, performance, business, jazz studies, collaborative piano, string pedagogy, graduate conducting, and liberal arts-the School of Music is committed to offering individualized attention given to each student. It is housed in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, along with the School of Theater and Dance, the Wonsook Kim School of Art, and the Program in Creative Technologies. The School of Music has an enrollment of 360 music majors (300 undergraduate and 60 graduate students), with 52 full-time faculty and 40 graduate assistants. The School of Music frequently hosts renowned guest artists who collaborate with our major ensembles, lead masterclasses, and serve as resident composers or clinicians for the annual REDNOTE New Music Festival.

Required Qualifications

1. Hold a terminal degree in Music Composition or Music Theory; however, exceptional A.B.D. candidates will also be considered with an expected completion of their doctoral degree before May 15, 2024.
2. Candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in their teaching, research, and/or service.
3. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
