The UNM Community and Regional Planning (CRP)Department seeks applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor inIndigenous Planning. We invite applications for a full-time faculty positioneither at the level of Assistant Professor (probationary appointment leading toa tenure decision) or Associate Professor (tenured). Applications received onor before January 15th will have best consideration, the position will remainopen until filled. The appointment will begin August 19, 2024

The CRP department offers two degrees, a BA inEnvironmental Planning and Design and an accredited Master of Community andRegional Planning. In addition to Indigenous Planning (IP), the MCRP programhas graduate concentrations in Natural Resources and Environmental Planning,Community Development, and Physical Planning and Design. The IP Graduate Concentrationis the only one of its kind in the nation and attracts students and scholarsfrom across the hemisphere.  An online IPCertificate has also been approved and efforts are underway to make itavailable nationwide. The School also has the Indigenous Design and PlanningInstitute whose community-based work spans the Southwest, the US, and otherhemispheric Indigenous territories.

Teaching responsibilities will include graduate andundergraduate courses in planning. The appointment may also include an appointmentwith the School's Indigenous Design and Planning Institute. In addition to IP,strengths in areas relating to spatial analysis and place-based planning are aplus.

The CRP Department is also affiliated with theSchool's Resource Center for Raza Planning and has dual Master degrees withWater Resources, Latin American Studies, and Public Administration. The CRPDepartment has a diverse faculty and student body who are committed to socialtransformation, collective action and community engagement that works towardssocial justice and resilient communities. The School has been involved inpublic interest design for over fifty years through its Design and PlanningAssistance Center (DPAC). 

Other degree programs in the School of Architectureand Planning include a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, an accreditedprofessional Master of Architecture degree, as well as a non-professionalMaster of Science in Architecture, an accredited Master of LandscapeArchitecture degree, along with two graduate certificate programs in UrbanInnovation and Historic Preservation and Regionalism.

The School of Architecture and Planning is housed inthe award-winning George Pearl Hall, designed by architect Antoine Predock, andlocated along Central Avenue, on the edge of UNM's Albuquerque campus.

Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, islocated along the Rio Grande, adjacent to the Sandia Mountains. A high desertcity, the climate is mild most of the year. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1.) Ph.D. with expertise in Indigenous Planning or Indigenous Studies; 
2.) Ability to teach, teaching experience or teaching training at the undergraduate and master levels; and 
3.) Written academic scholarship in a Planning related field and promise of an innovative scholarly trajectory. 

Preferred Qualifications:

1.) Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Student Success as well as working with broadly diverse communities; 
2.) Experience in community-based practice in Indigenous communities;
3.) Experience with or interest in working with Indigenous communities in the Southwestern United States; 
4.) Interest or experience in remote program offerings; 
5.) Ability to advise and direct graduate work; 
6.) Ability to work cooperatively in collegial settings.
