Position Overview
Position Summary:
Eastern New Mexico University's (ENMU) Department of Anthropology and Applied Archaeology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Anthropology who will also serve as the Coordinator of our growing undergraduate Forensic Science Program. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. The position entails a .25 administrative release as Coordinator and a 3/3 teaching load. This is a residential appointment and campus presence is required. ENMU seeks candidates committed to excellent undergraduate and graduate education and student success within the framework of the teacher-scholar model.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a range of general undergraduate and graduate courses in anthropology, Forensic Science, and biological anthropology
- Establish a research program that provides practical training and applied and/or basic research experiences for ENMU students
- Mentor students in thesis and capstone projects
- Assist with academic planning, curricular design, and program development; program assessment and reporting
- Assist with recruitment and retention efforts
- Serve as the faculty advisor of the ENMU Forensic Science Society
- Engage in scholarly activities
- Serve on departmental, college and university committees
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology or related field of Forensic Science preferred (ABD will be considered)
- Preference given to candidates with experience in the application of osteological analyses in a medicolegal setting
- Previous teaching experience at the college level preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and willingness to teach using traditional, hybrid or online distance education technologies
- Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership abilities and/or administrative experience
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Clear plans for an active research program
- Knowledge about the analysis of human remains
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college level
- Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- Familiarity with Native American groups and NAGPRA applications.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
